Saw on the TV this morning that Thunderbirds the Movie is due for release next Summer. Bill Paxton who plays the part of Jeff Tracy, is one of the main stars.
Don't know about this one, potentially it could be good but America has got a history of killing classics.:(

The fact that Bill Paxton is in it means it's probably DTF (doomed to failure) as he has become a very second rate supporting actor for movies that aren't too successful since Apollo 13 (in my opinion).

Knowing our luck, this will probably be the first in a series of T'Bird movies!! USA USA USA

Other than the fact that the Americans are making the film, I think that is a kinda clue to what the Americans have to do with it!!;)

Oh come now. Maybe we are all being a bit cynical. The yanks have produced some top films made from super heroes or kiddies tv. Take "He-Man" with Dolph Lundgren for example.

I would like to see one done of Bag Puss - in CGI of course - in Arnie style - with an ozi 9mm - taking out professor Yaffell - and Emily. Might work

But then again, since "Apollo 13" he has appeared in "Titanic", "U571", "A Simple Plan", "Twister" and "Vertical Limit" as well as directing and starring in the extremely well received "Frailty".

So "DTF" isn't that certain, is it? The movie may or may not turn out to be a disaster, but Paxton is hardly the deciding factor.

The danger is that George W will see it and noone will tell him it is a film. He will want to have Brains working for him. Come to think of it there Jeff Tracey & George W are lookalikes

I believe that Mr Paxton is the only famous person cast in this Tbird film. Is this through choice or lack of options?

My point, the_paulie, to all this is that it will probably be crap because they can only find supporting actors to play main parts.

and by the way, Titanic - he was only in it for about 10mins, U571 killed half way through, but not that much dialog, Vertical Limit - well this was crap. What was the one with the Gorilla? did you like that too?

    The blokes a prop!

See where I'm goin with this?

I'll give you Twister though! (But only cos the concept is real and interests me - and the flying cow)

    :smashin:

PS: I take it you're looking forward to seeing Thunderbirds: The Movie ? :(

FWA, America made Thunderbirds which means that the likley hood of Americans being involved is quite likely so hence generalisation of "Americans".;)

In that case Americans also make fantastic movies not based on british tv series, so how can you blanket the entire reason for Thunderbirds being made with 'Americans".

...and finally it was, for the most part filmed in this country, which would have probably lead to the involvement of british talent and crew.

Look, this movie is going to be a 'hollywood' movie, right. A hollywood movie comes from America, as in the USA. It may be filmed here, BUT, it will still be an american film. When we say american film, we mean that the plot, characters, cgi, directors etc etc, may be american as in USA.

We just hope that they don't make this film into a steroetypical USA type movie. Like He-Man, like Ghost ship, like The Shadow, like anything with a shallow plot with hammy acting.

We are not having a go at all Americans, just the ones that make this film. Or to the non-americans who are under american influence!! ;)

How can you tell? Are you making the french stereotypical by saying that.

Tell me, what makes them look french?

FWA, I am not having a go, you said, if you read the quote "What does America have to do with it....?" if you had of gone into more detail instead of being vague then it would have avoided this.

By the way do these "Tracy Boys" really look english to you??

    Ben Kingsley as "The Hood"?

My instincts tell me that "T' birds" could well be a disaster (I hope I am wrong) but certainly not for the same reasons you put forth. The history of cinema is peppered with many, many critically acclaimed and / or very successful movies with non "A list" or star names in the leading roles. You think that the presence of Arnie or Tom or Bruce or (God forbid) Keanu means a greater chance of a better movie? You really need to watch more movies...

Er... can you indicate to me exactly where where I said that I liked any of them? My point was purely that his presence in a film does not necessarily spell failure for a movie. And anyone who has seen "Frailty" will know that the man is more than a "prop".

As to the forum member who asked

Er... (again), the Tracy boys never were English in the TV series.

And before anyone gets their expectations too high for this movie, the producers have made it quite clear from the outset that the movie is aimed squarely at the kiddie market. It is based on a children's TV series after all, and they'll be lookin' to sell toys.

Oh and it's "pauley by the way. :smashin:

The_pauley, at no point did I make reference of the Tracy boys being English, my only reference was to 'looking english' and that was to rectify this quote:-

There were rumours of the Tracey brothers being played by the Baldwin clan early in the planning stage. Shame that never panned out - would have been good to see how they'd create a 5th Baldwin (I believe there's just the four of them).

The teaser trailer for the film is on the Hulk DVD - from what I can remember, the big green one (not too genned up on my Thunderbirds) lands in front of the House of Commons with a Met Police car screeching to a halt.

I didn't realise it was for kiddies, that changes everything. I'm sure it will be a fantastic family movie.

Thankyou for putting me straight on a lot of the incorrect assumptions and statements I made yesterday. I now understand, and because of this I feel I will be able to enjoy movies in a completely different light.

Call me an ignoramus, but there aren't too many films that I have watched and honestly say enjoyed that haven't contained the A list in hollywood actors. I'm not necessarily refering to your Arnie, Bruce etc., as I find they are not particularly good actors anyway. But I am a big fan of the likes of Kevin Spacey, Tom Hanks, Cuba Gooding Jn, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman.....

You say there are many, many examples of films that have been amazing without anyone famous in them. Please could you let me know what they are please.

But before you answer I want you to

     :( :( :p :) :D  :smoke: CHILL!!!!!

Sorry I got your name wrong!

    For You

true - the best of the lot.

I retract my comment on JF :smashin:

It will be interesting to see how he copes with a subject away from Star Trek

    What else has he directed?
