I've asked a similar question once before but the old threads have been deleted and I would again like advice from the experts to avoid any costly mistakes!

I've got a Domino 20 which I'm using in my living room with a 16:9 106" diagonal screen. I'm now looking into converting a spare bedroom to a cinema room and want to know the minimum distance I can have my pj from the screen if I were to use my current set up.

If I were to keep the screen and buy a different Sim2 pj then without spending silly money, which one would give the shortest throw distance and how much closer could I position it.

I know some of this info. is available on the website but I just wanted to check before having expensive plans drawn up for a room that may not be suitable!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi I think the minimum distance for a 106" diagonal screen on a domino 20 is 5.4m or 17'8"ft
    good luck

Cheers, although that's not sounding hopeful! It looks like a different pj or a smaller screen is the only way I can do it! No matter what I'm sticking with Sim2 though!

    Hi,

Why not run upstairs with the PJ and a DVD deck to be absolutely sure?

    It makes sense.

    Pete.

As I need to have the room extended out over the garage first. It could be a lot of wasted cash if after paying for the extension I end up with a bigger spare bedroom that I still can't use for a cinema!!

The Domino 30H will give you a much bigger picture than the 20/20H.

You could fill your 106" diag screen from 13.8 ft with the 30H

That sounds promissing! Am I right in saying the 30H has the same throw distance as the HT300 models? If so and keeping in mind I'm using component as my Arcam doesn't have HDMI, would I get a better picture from a Domino 30 or one of the HT series models.

My Domino 20 is one of the original pre HDMI models and I guess it will have lost a lot of value so I would probably look to replace it with another non HDMI model in the hope if getting a good chunk off the original cost!

I guess really what I'm asking is should I go for a used Domino 30 (not H model) or something else?

The throw on the Domino 30H is the same as the 300 Series.

It may be a false economy to upgrade to an old 30 or 300 with Hi Def DVD and Sky around the corner using HDMI with HDCP.

    Just my opinion.

I see your point Jeff but I won't have Sky upstairs anyway and I've only recently bought an Arcam DV27A so don't plan on upgrading my DVD player for a while. I would however only go for a non HDMI model if the price was very good!

If I were to go for a non HDMI model, which 300 series models would be a notable improvement on a Domino 30? I will obviously demo some nearer the time but I'm just trying to get ideas at the moment.
