Next to Peter Watkins's The War Game this was the nuclear film that scared me the most as a young teen. Severin are releasing it in 2 versions including one with a lenticular case.

    Severin's site

    Extras:
Audio Commentary with Director Mick Jackson Moderated By Film Writer Kier-La Janisse and Severin Films’ David Gregory
Audition For The Apocalypse: Interview With Actress Karen Meagher
Shooting The Annihilation: Interview With Director Of Photography Andrew Dunn
Destruction Designer: Interview With Production Designer Christopher Robilliard
Interview With Film Writer Stephen Thrower
    US Trailer

    Amazon lenticular
    Diabolik lenticular
    Severin lenticular
    Severin standard

Severin have some releases in the UK (including the brilliant Killing of America and weird Bag Boy Lover Boy) but no sign of Threads so far on the UK online Pornographer in Chief's website http://bbfc.co.uk/releases/threads-1987

Possibly the most horrific film ever made.

The artwork is crap though, doesn't have any resemblance to the film at all. Doesn't look like Sheffield to me.

It does look a bit like an amalgam however if you search the image on Google it comes up with "Sheffield City Hall". No idea if part of it is there or they've just photoshopped it to meh. I suppose too it's got to be bland for Merkins.

No shortage of interesting artwork I'd hope the BFI would use something like:

WowHD is listing this now LE or standard release

Funny thing is it's Bradford City Hall, not Sheffield. ;)

Well spotted. It could be mistaken for the 19th century Sheffield Town Hall with the Peace Gardens in front, but I didn't think it looked quite right. I'm not sure that any of these actually appear in the film; in this clip of the bombing and explosions it momentarily shows the mid-1970s "egg box" style Sheffield Town Hall extension being destroyed at 4:16 (in real life this building has since been demolished and the gardens also had a major redesign).

We were made to watch Threads in an English lesson, 1986/7, and it scared the bejebus out of us. One way to shut a load of noisy kids up.

That's very interesting our Modern Studies teacher let us watch it along with other stuff like Meantime and Made in Britain. My favourite teacher. Mr Monty.

This is the a US release. I have 2 other US Severin tiles (The Stunt Man & Lost Souls) both play on a UK machine.

Multi-region = make your life easier it will. A lighter wallet too :D

I know, "the irony".....I get the same chills Bri when I watch Das Boot and Apocalypse Now. I get it, but I don't have the smarts to explain why I feel the way I do, I just get it.

In the foreground of the standard edition cover in the first post - compare to:
    Peace Gardens - Wikipedia

The lenticular limited edition cover in the third post mostly has destruction there!

Yet what are these images - have they just photo-shopped them up out of nowhere?

Cheers, looking for standard blu ray only and WowHD seems the cheapest option but reading they are hit and miss these days. Only ever used them once years ago and no issues then.

15% off using code EGGNOG at DeepDiscount the lenticular takes me to less than £20 with my currency fee free card.

Don't add anything else to the basket it seems to mess with the discount. I got:

    Threads $23.78
    Blu-ray Release date: 1/30/2018
    663390002179
    Promo Code: EGGNOG -$3.57
    International Shipping $5.98
    Order total: $26.19

Standard edition here works out at $23.64 shipped (£17.70 on today's £/$ with no fee).

But this is Sheffield Town Hall..

And here is Bradford City Hall..

Well I've been to Sheffield but not to Bradford. Which one is more likely to be that on the cover. I'd go for Bradford.

I see this has been delayed until the middle of February.

The LE lenticular has also dropped to £15.57 at WowHD here or £13.92 for the standard here

I can tell you if I lived in Sheffield I'd be angry as the prevert Ruskies might look at that front cover and program their inter-continental ballistic missiles to the wrong place!

    How very dare they!

If considering this release, it might be worth waiting on Peter Crocker's upcoming UK restoration from Simply Media due in a couple of months time; unfortunately only scheduled for DVD however it's been suggested that the source material could be better and the clean-up is also in safe hands...

When I think of Simply Media it's more:

Better artwork apart from the BBC sci-fi font -that's very interesting news. Simply Media's catalogue looks very much like a DVD distributor only like quite a few lazy UK companies. I'm sure they do all those catalogues that Daily Mail readers like getting through their door. They do have a Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy PDF on their site so it's not all bad news.

Nothing new on the Pornographer-in-Chief's (formerly known as the BBFC) website about extras but I'd definitely double dip if they have something interesting. I remember a BBC documentary years ago featuring Threads.

    Interesting tidbit on the director:

    Blu-ray Review: THREADS Still Destroys

Hopefully that Q&A has been professionally filmed so we can enjoy it.

Totally agree although French Canadians must take some of the blame.

I'm wondering if this is the BBC thing I remember from the 1980s:
Panorama - If The Bomb Drops (1980 Nuclear War...

Licence fee payers' dream programming I'm sure for 1980.

I see some negative comments about this release. I'm hoping it's the usual suspects who tend not to have seen it and are expecting way too much from far from perfect materials (a fancy low resolution UK DVD isn't going to fix that either). This is not a Disney film obviously and Michael Bay was not available to redo the SFX. Will have my copy next week.

    Some reviews:

    here
    here
    here
    here

I think it looks great from those reviews. Key word "variable" materials and not having ignorant expectations.
