Apart from the LFE being low I also found the music was mixed too low compared to the vocals as well. Even pushing sub to +6db, center to -2db and volume up to -14 from usual -20 I still felt something was missing in the soundtrack. It seemed lacking in dynamic range overall like a limiter had been left on. The vocals also seemed a bit harsh to my ears at times.

On my first watch I spent quite a bit of time trying to identify who was playing Hela hence I found it amusing when she says "Don't you know who I am" and "Don't you recognise me?" Like the inhabitants of Asgard I certainly didn't... :)
Didn't spot it was Cate until the credits rolled.

I have to say I didn't enjoy this film(although I only really liked Iron Man of all these comic book movies) for me it was a poor comedy, I did however appreciate the visuals.

I really liked this at the cinema and was looking forward to a cracking UHD release, hoping for new reference scenes, especially with the 80's music.

However, they got the sound mix on this totally wrong. The menu screen was 20% louder than the film itself. Absolutely no impact from Thor's hammer hitting anything, even my mrs who never picks up on anything mildly technical said "it all seems very flat, but that's ok with Harry (my 10 month old) happily sleeping and I don't want to wake him up". My amp was up to -12db - this normally shakes every bone in my body and starts to make my eardrum cry out in pain!

Picture was fantastic in parts though...

Thought the PQ was good. Didn’t notice too much on the sound as I was watching through a TV.

This is a movie that I feel gets better with repeat viewings. First viewing I gave it a 6/10. Now I have seen 3 times in total and is a solid 8

I bought this on stanard blu ray today, im not enirely happy with the soundtrack. It lacks punch, the centre channel although present seems to lack the ooomph expected. It gets slightly better further into the film but the start is very lacking and the hulk/thor fight is underwhelming. Must have used the same sound team as the Age of Ultron!

I thought it sounded fine. But I'm more of a visual fanatic than a sound one. And the visuals on show here are, well, show-stopping. I'd give this a 10 for picture quality. Every scene is mesmerising.

They explained that, because he had been in the Hulk state without turning back to Bruce B for so long then the Hulk had learned to talk.

So will this still be in the top 4K Blu-ray list? I think AVF must remove it asap given the sound issues. If this was an age old catalog title with average sound then it can be in the list.

Fair enough, but he still sounded stupid, I never liked this film as a whole, and I never liked wonder woman, both had a been there done that feel to me...and we're just average

I agree with all the comments about the audio, which is such a shame as the film itself is just great fun and Chris Hemsworth shows again, after his scene-stealing turn in the otherwise forgettable Ghostbusters remake, that he is a really talented comic actor.

It also got me thinking as I was watching Black Panther over the weekend (also great) that, whatever your opinion on Marvel and it's effect on modern blockbusters, it's faintly absurd that after this many films they are still managing to surprise and entertain in equal measure (and if anything the quality of the films is improving and not getting worse which is the usual way with sequels)

      Roll on Infinity War!!

Fair enough - I kind of agree about WW - like the opening act but after that felt very average - cannot help but think it garnered such rave reviews because it was the first major female superhero movie. Thor Ragnarok on the other hand I absolutely love - really enjoyed the humour but I am a big fan of Taika Waititi's previous films.

I think these films, a lot like star wars, are just trying to be too humorous some times.

Unfortunately I agree. I'd heard a lot of good things about this one but it misfired on every level for me. I wasn't keen on the second Thor but it's a classic compared to this one. I really wanted this to work.

Many thanks for he review Cas :)

Am I the only one who saw the £27 price tag and just said no?
Only looked on amazon but they are usually competitive, also same price for Star Wars.
Ludicrous price imo, nearly double the Blu-ray. They should do 4K disc only sets and stop ripping us off!

Nope, £27 is very punchy. £25 is my limit but it has to be for a film I really want and, preferably, is on 4K DI. That said, I'll probably pay £27 for the new Star Wars film. For most films, the Blu Ray at up to £15 will do fine. I might feel differently if I had an Oled, but with my tv, the HDR in UHD discs can make the black bars in films fluctuate a touch and I find that distracting. My tv handles SDR much better despite being a FALD Sony (low local dimming zone count though). As such, I find these discs a bit of a compromise and therefore more than £25 is usually more than I'm willing to pay - I like that they come with the blu ray versions though.

I will buy this film on Blu Ray.

Maybe the movie meant to be mixed this way? With clear dialogue and milder base effects...

What was it like in theatre?

A number of MCU releases have had a odd/poor/restrained sound mix so not surprised but disappointed by this.

I am a fan of Taika Waititi and when I heard he was doing a marvel movie I was very interested in his take on the universe. Thor was the ideal character for him to use as he has a more left field back story. Saw this at the cinema and loved it. So funny and easily the most entertaining movie of the past 12 months for me.

Watched the UHD last night and again loved it. The picture quality is amazing with really vibrant colours. I do agree that the sound lacks weight especially for an atmos track. Didn’t help that I had watched BR2049 the previous night either - stunning Audio/video.

Like all comedy it comes down to taste, and I agree with the earlier comment about marvel movies. People complain about the number of superhero movies, but the quality of marvel movies continues to surprise me after all these years. Always willing to take risks as with Thor. Tough to create a good blockbuster as evidenced by the huge number of turkeys (transformers).

I would say just few and most of them are pretty good with some close to reference

Age of Ultron was a mixed bag for dynamics.
