Do Virgin Media allow you to run your own set top box rather than taking their V HD Box? I only ask because I'd quite like to go with VM, but the additional £5 per month for the box enabling pause/rewind/recording etc seems a bit steep. I'd need to record programmes, but I already have a Humax for that.

Like I say, if it's a stupid question, feel free to shoot me down in flames.
 
It's not a daft question. The only equipment you are allowed to connect to the Virgin Media cable network is equipment supplied to you by Virgin Media and for which you are paying the appropriate subscription.
 
No £5/month fee if you have the XL tv package.
