I'm an existing Sky digital subscriber who is thinking of getting Sky+.
How many hours of programming does the basic Sky+ store as opposed to the Sky+ 160?

Friends are saying that when Sky launch Sky+ HD, it is rumoured they'll be giving the old Sky+ boxes away as these will be the new basic box. They have advised me to wait on getting Sky+.

Has anyone else heard this or have concrete info about this?

    Cheers

Sky should really know better. The Sky+ 160 box won't do HD (which some Sky reps have implied), although it's true that SD Sky+ boxes will probably be free after HD comes out. The Sky+ 160 box has problems with the optical sound output, and if that's going to be a problem for you, then it's better to get a standard Sky+ box and put a bigger drive in it yourself. The amount of recording time you get varies with the material being recorded, but you should get at least 80 hours, probably a lot more.
