Thinking ~50'' plasma but maybe not buy now

Hello all,
I am going to be buying a new flat and need a new TV.

• I will be sitting 3.5m to 4m from where the TV will go
• I have a separate 5.1 system so the on board sound doesn't matter much
• It will mainly be used for lots of films and recorded TV series
• Sports-wise: all the F1 and rarely rugby/football
• I have no source of 3D content and don't intend to get one for a long time
• The room has one large window, north facing, on the opposite wall so not too much glare
• I can realistically put off buying until September if there is any reason to

I know that whatever I get will be 3D capable but I don't mind how good the 3D performance is, as long as the 2D is great. I'm redecorating and updating the place so I'd just like to know all the options that fit the bill and then decide on how much to spend... help please!
