Think I am going to buy some RS1s

After some new standmount speakers:

These will sit on Atacama Nexis Stands with sand in. Will I gain anything in improving on the stands?

They will be connected to Rotel RC-01 (40wpc) amp and RCD-02 CD player connected using cord interconnects.

I also have a Velo Sub SPL 800 in the system and it has been suggested that I will probably prefer that setup compared to floor mounts and no sub

The room size is 5mtr x 3.5mtr

My budget is £400

My choice is down to RS1s

What do you think?

Out of interest the weak link is my speaker cable and suggestions would be greafully recd

I think you would be best demoing these first, some people love them, others say they are too bright but either way on ebay you can buy these for under 200.00 in great condition to but no those stands are absolutely fine

The last pair went for £230 on ebay plus delivery

I appreciate that I can probable get cheaper form ebay but I have had good server from the dealer and to me thats worth a lot

I got a pair on dem today and so pay like them. I prefer them to my Kef Q1s so I think these will be appearing in the classifieds shortly

I am now tempted to try some RS6s which also get great review as these may enable me to dispence with the sub.

As the dealer is a Linn specialist I am also trying some ex dem Katans as they will be the same price but I feel I may be disapointed and they are faily lightweight in the bass department from what I have read.

I have spent the last 3 hours listening to the RS6s and comparing them to the RS1s. In all except once case both my girlfield and I prefered the Rs1 partnered with the Vello sub and even without the sub for some tracks. The only track that made my girlfriend say she prefered the RS6s was Nora Jones but I could not hear the difference.

So now I am hoping I can do a deal with the shop and buy the ones I have been demoing.

I also had 2 different sets of speaker cable, QED Silver and Linn K20 and to be honest I prefered the Linn so hope to get that too.

Someone suggested the GS10s but from what I can see they will take a bit more driving over the RS1s. I have heard a few say they are better corretly powered though. My amp maxes out at 40wpc and I think the RS1s are at the correct price level when you look at the amp abd cd player. If/when I have the next upgrade I may start from scratch

If I can save some loot I/we have decided to move the amp/cd to between the speakers and will need the saved money to buy something to stand them on, any suggestions. I realise it very much depends on taste.

Your amp can power the GS10's, but it wont get anywhere near the best out of them. They are only standmounts so dont need massive power draw to work, providing you dont try and run them at full volume. It may be worth considering them if you can afford them at the moment, then upgrade your amp at a later date.

Have you considered RS5s?

Might be a good compromise between the 2, essentially an RS1 with a slightly longer cabinet. The RS6s would have been too much in my room I feel, but preffered the look of a floorstander.

I have a pair and they are excellent, chose them after quite an extensive audition (between most of the MA Bronze and silver range, Focal 700 series and kef IQs). If your dealer has them they may be worth a listen.

Went with the RS1s, look good on standmounts and sound brill. Bought the demo one and saved some money

When I am ready for the next upgrade I will probably start from cratch and buy the GS1s, new stands, new amp and cd
