Sorry but felt I had to start a moaning thread to get some things off my chest about flickr.

I hate notes, I hate them so badly I want to kill their inventor. Notes would be great if you could click a button that said "see notes" but no, that's too easy. Instead we have to have notes that pop up on a whim and stay on the photo forever so you can't even see a photo with lots of notes. It really annoys me too when you see a more "fruity" shot and some imbecile feels it necessary to put a note on the more intimate parts of the body simply with "nice". GET A LIFE.

Now on to the second annoying thing, gushing fans. These people actually compete to be the first to comment on a photo and would praise the shot equally if it were one of mine as long as it was in the name of their favourite photographer. "You are so great" "I love you" "Amazing" are just a few of the oft repeated phrases. For examples, look here.

Another thing that's slightly annoying is the "interestingness" feature. Sure some of the shots are great but some of the shots that have the gushers and note makers coming in droves are very similar to some shots that have none, why? A beautifully composed photo full of colour and a great subject could get no views but post a picture of a lego man with a stick and it's like the best shot ever.

Anyway, rant over and if anyone would like to discuss these irritating nuances then please let the debate begin.:)

Pretty much agree with all the above, though I findif you hover over a picture and get the notes, when you move the cursor off they disappear. Plus you can click to view the image in other sizes and the notes don't show.

I must say I probably ignore many of those annoying things as I dont tend to linger on any one image enough ... Im far more likely to be there to see a full size image posted here these days:)
Anyway I hope you feel better now Dave;)!

People who treat it like a social networking site annoy me. B*gger off back to MyFaceSpaceBook or whatever it's called!

Also, something else that really annoys me is the stereotype photographer avatar everyone has. You know the one, someone looking all moody whilst holding their camera to their eye... although that doesn't just apply to Flickr.

Like this if you're not sure what I'm talking baout:

Sorry for the brutal MS Paint effort, but you get the idea.

Yeah, but you can pay for a Pro account, which is only $25 for a year. Worth it IMO.

People who use it as a glorified storage facility for pictures of their new gadgets. Wasting a subscription. Go out and take real photos!

Have you thought of glamour shots? .. Youd get a few more than 2..
You get a fair few on here though .I dont mind few comments but I see pics there that dont do much for me with a lot of "effusive " comments and many great shots that get bypassed
Tagging is it .. no tagging and nobody wil come along:mad:

Just had a look through your photostream and it's certainly not the quality of the images that's making you lack comments.

What gets me is Explore. I know its not the be all and end all, but I would like to atleast get one photo in there! Some of my photos have more views and more comments than other ones in there but still no luck for me!

Also when a photo like bacon 'n' raisins on Flickr - Photo Sharing! gets in there! Now what is interesting about that? I would like to think at least some of mine are more interesting!

I am quite happy with flickr (even though it is blocked in Dubai :thumbsdow). I would prefer more control over sets...

I am very happy with Flickr.
It does not cost me a bean, it allows me to embed photos on here, stores up to 200 photos of mine for free, allows me to edit and resize my photos if i want to.

Its all free, whats not to like:thumbsup:

    Hi,

I don't use Flickr, I have a few pics on it but I find it crap to use and browse.

It might be free but I just don't like it at all.

    Mike.

I like it, its free, its a storage site for me to easily embed an image wherever i need to, don't care about views, popularity or bloody glory like some do, if i did i'd pay some sex on legs model to get her kit off and watch them views rack up. BABY.....OH......YES....WORK...IT...GIRL.:D

    Mark.

EDIT....jeez my wife almost saw this.

Had a quick butchers at your shots and they are pretty nice but I can see where you are going wrong if you want comments.

When you click on a photo that has got lots of comments look to the right and you will see a gazillion different groups that the photographer sent to photo to. This is what you need to do.

Don't worry about whether your photos is suitable for the group it doesn't matter on flickr a tiny bit. You will often see utterly crap photos that look like an unprocessed RAW in groups such as "fantastic shot of the day" and "OMFG This photo is pant wettingly good".

I love flickr, it has helped me to decide to buy the Canon 17-55, Sigma 30mm and the LX3 by checking out the photos on the flickr groups.
