You youngsters don't know you're born ;) When I was a lad we thought it luxury if we had a 20Mb hard drive and that would be shared between the whole of the programming department

There are physical and thermal limitations to overcome, they're no doubt being worked on.

have a look at this thread:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/general-chat/1500852-what-kind-back-up-solution-do-you-have.html

there are many online solution that can and will hold all your data :)

And okay the time to upload all the data may be huggeeeee but they can send you 1-2 tb drives to your home, you put all your data onto those and then it's done.

you can always backup your data...just depends how much your data is worth to you.

How much is it going to cost to back up 10tb of data though?

I have about 5tb worth of media on a little homeserver. I havent got all of that backed up anywhere else simply because i cant afford too.

I do have an external 1.5tb that i add things too though. So can back up some of the 5tb. Would cost me a couple of hundred £'s to have a full back up solution for the server data. I cant afford that atm unfortunately. So its a case of fingers crossed the server doesnt blow up!!! :rotfl:

As deadringers said, it all depends on how much the data is worth to you. But backed up it can be, just depends on the size of your wallet.

Backup to other disks or the cloud or a nice ultrium 10 tape robo deck, or even bigger :) the choices are there.

I had an email back about cost of recovery - £95 for investigation and approx £300-£600 for recovery.

That was letting them know it was a Tb drive, and that most of it was single files (pictures, videos, documents)

Just to say that I managed to retrieve pretty much everything from my drive. There was definitely some bits missing due to CRC errors, but I got back 95% all the DAII and Skyrim mods I had archived, a few comic scans I was missing and some rips from TVBoxsets and CDs - I could have ripped the latter again and also scanned my comics again but it would have been a pain in the arse.

I think it was a panic thing - I had a backup that was 6 months old, this was an archive drive as such and I thought there 'must' have been LOADS of changes.

There wasnt, but its not until you are able to check that you realise.

Anyway, as it seems that sticking things in Freezers for 16hrs makes them work properly again, I am off to dig up the neighbours cat that myseteriously dissapeared, remove my daughters attitude gland and grab my bank account and stick them all in the freezer.

The newer Z77 boards have arrived, and I am a little miffed at the fact that I just dont like the fan control on my Gigabyte Z68.

I loved the ASUS boards Q-FAN control, and they have brought out a Sabretooth version, one I was looking at before:

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77

I just need to work out if 'miffed about fan control' = worth spending £140ish. :D

It's a reason at least Theydon.

I've spent about £400 since Christmas on things I didn't necessarily need (new mobo, cpu, ssd & case) & a further £140 on a gpu (at least I had a reason for that one).

What about using speedfan or buying a fan controller. I use a BigNG on mine which takes readings from my water cooling loop, rad air/out etc. Speedfan is probably what you are looking for, its free and will give you control over all fans plugged into your mobo much the same as QFAN. :)

No because you can get a decent fan controller for next to nothing, in fact i may have 2 lying around and if i can find them you can have one of them.

Or like afro man says use speedfan.

Wait you have a 650D don't you? Why not just use the built in fan controller on that? Surely it holds all the fans you would need for that case.

...because, and please dont tell anyone, thats the crap thing about the case. It just doesnt (imho) work how I expect it to, and then is controlled by a random switch rather than specific settings by the board.

My old Antec P180B had better fan control system with its three step fan switches, but when run by ASUS QFAN, you could do far more with them.

I will look into Speedfan etc though. :smashin:

Well, I forgot to update my sig, let alone my own thread

    TFT

Picked up a new TFT around April/May, from SegaMegaDave no less, a Sammy 700D, 3D 120Hz TFT which is quite frankly, gorgeous.

Some quick pictures taken at the time I got it (a XFX 5870 installed at the time), next to my existing TFT. My old one lasted me a good 5 years, and was only replaced as it took the best part of a minute and a half to wake up from sleep, flickering badly all the time until it slowed down and settled.

This is out of the box, so the contrast was way up high, and combined with my amazingly bad photography ski11z, it looks a washed out mess. Peer past that however, and even from the bad shots and retina burning contrast level you can see more detail in the shots (halo effect from the runes, dappled sunlight effects, and even if you cant, compare the borders of a 5yr old (and would still be in use today) bevel vs something this year.

The game is Dungeons and Dragons Online for reference, and thats my young raven haired elf lady, Truely Scrumptious. :)

    SSD

In August, I finally pulled the trigger on a new SSD. My 60Gb OCZ was nice, but did require micromanagement, redirecting my documents and all of my games to a normal drive. SSD's had begun dropping in price over the last few months, and when I was ready to pull the trigger, I read that Samsung were offering a cashback deal to make more things worthwhile, so I held off for a month. The price of £145 remained for most stores and I got a £20 cashback (which currently is still unpaid, so was not really worth the wait) and a day or so after it arrived, I reinstalled Windows 7 and moved my bits and pieces across.

My Documents and my Origin game folder are now on the SSD, and all was good....or was it? I recently built a machine for a friend, and his Corsair SSD felt decididly more nippy than my 'superfast' Sammy 830.

So out come the speedtests. Depsite my Sammy beating the Corsair in the same test (his was a 120Gb), I still felt there was something missing.....

.....and checking benchmarks and speedtests from other peole on this very forum, I noticed that I was slower than I should be. Then I notticed the 'pciide' next to my drive, and groaned. Would I have to reinstall the whole lot again due to changing the controller type? Most likely. Luckily a quick google check and a quick registry change and a few reboots and....Oh my thats quick. Far better, and a quick test revealed:

Those are some great speeds from a single drive, especially seen as AS measures uncompressed read/write speeds. Right, I'm off to test my Intel drive it had better be as good as that!

BTW, Mrs W called me the other day specifically to tell me where she was...................in Theydon Bois! I made a crude comment but let's not go there. :p

lol, you lot will still shoot me in the face quicker in BF3, and now I have lost the ability to blame it on lag :)

Just ran it again (while I get tired of doing that?) and it was pretty much identical.

My gaming PC is running wireless and the router is about 20 feet away, although the doors do allow a pretty much direct line of sight.
