They were right! Pixel matching -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post in several parts really. 1) Those folk who have for seemingly years now advocated PC's with soft -ware like powerstrip enabling pixel matching to a display unit (in my case a panny100) were absolutely right. People like Kramer, Sean and Hoglet (I apologise to those pioneers I may have left out) really did see the light. I've toyed with it over the last 18 months-could never quite get it right. It can be a pain dragging your PC from one room trying to supply sound as well via that little adapter to phono inputs on your hi fi, and then when trying to get the thing to work you lose the whole screen unable to see what your'e doing and having to put the original display monitor on again, such a headache all of it. Recently though I was having a new tyre fitted the chap who was doing it has a plasma based home theatre we were talking and he mentioned the sky plus mod in 'what satellite' Had a look spoke to who it transpires was Viking boy and eventually decided to try the PC route again as SDI needs to go this way. So once again I persevered with Hoglet's settings post, and once I got the thing right- Blimey it was good! So good even though it was late at night it was one of those having to try lot's of DVD's to be amzed by the improvement moments. One particular film Brannagh's Henry 5th was very dissapointing when purchased recently and played via my pioneer 565a-iscan pro -panny 100. Grainy, dark and ill defined now on the PC it looked very watchable. So I'm now a fan of the pc route pixel matching. It makes good sense and provides a qualitive leap forward I'm going to have put in a quality sound card now (better still build a dedicated pc) 2) Problem though. Even though I've saved the settings with a shortcut they are not always found and I tend to have to fiddle about a bit to get the 856x480 back as it tends to revert to 400x600. Any tips out there? 3)Any one using this route and then coming out the video card via Dvi into a dvi input pj surely this must look good digital all the way through. 4) My pc is athlon 3000+ Nvdia geforce 5600 256mb. I really plan now to build a home entertainment pc (as my son will fight me tooth and nail for the present pc). What sort off graphics cards would be a improvement over the geforce 5600? Any how thanks again to those advocates off pixel matching and their help. I apologise in advance for any accusations of sloppy posting. Cheers By the way I've moved and edited this post from the HTPC forum. Lawrence.
