It would seem the. GDP figures have been somewhat distorted by growth in one area of the economy. The public sector once again. The Government continues to grow despite the disastrous results in the private sector.

That compares 2008 to 2013, so doesn't say anything about current growth.

However it does show how flawed GDP is as an important economic metric, and also puts the 'austerity' into context!

Without Government growth we would have a much lower growth rate.

I have a brilliant idea. Why don't we shut the private sector and we all work for the Government. No need for unemployment and all pensions magically sorted out. Oh what a lovely war. :)
