Probably safe to assume this but is Season 8 the fixed release? as I bought the 1-9 set back in 2015 and it had the black crush issue which they offered replacements for but worth double checking.

Had most of the series on DVD until I sold them, one of my favourite series of all time. I liked most of the episodes, was never bothered as much with all the FBI/Alien conspiracy stuff, I preferred the one off episodes that investigated a weird phenomenon. Never bothered with the last 1 or 2 seasons and recent new episodes though.

I have S11 on my Sky box waiting to be watched, I've heard it's a bit of a disappointment, but I'll get around to it eventually...

Not sure I could ever buy a box set this big, I can't imagine finding the time to watch it all, retirement is still a long way off...

You heard correct, I struggled to find the magic that the previous episodes had.

Don't know, it could just be me but I still believe today, years on that Chris Carter's dark *Millennium* series was better.
X-files, they should left it alone tbh, the new eps gave it no justice.

This series really takes me back. I would love to be a couch potato for a couple of weeks and do some serious binge watching.

But....and its a big but! I have a 18 month old, 10 year old and 11 year old.......not sure I'll get the time to watch 250 odd episodes!! :(

Cas - in my opinion you're being far too generous.

The show fell off a cliff dramatically after Season Five and they've been flogging a dead horse and relying on the goodwill of the fans ever since.

But if you are a fan, then this Box does represent good value as it can only drop in price over time. And you certainly get a lot of TV for your money, albeit at hugely variable quality.

I suppose it does beg the question: when should a show end? Go out whilst you're still on top or carry on because there is demand, even if the quality suffers?

The way the US tv system used to work it was a lot more profitable to make as many episodes as possible. The more episodes there were then the longer they could play on syndicated tv which is where most US shows make their profit. This encouraged the producer's to continue making the shows beyond their what should be their natural end.

It’s £75 on Apple. Wonder if we will ever get a 4K release?

Loved the X Files until they brought it back with season 10 which was just awful. Season 11 marginally better with a few decent episodes. I think the acting has got worse if anything! I've got they 1-9 box set and I'll keep that and imagine they never made the last two series! The X files was they show I looked forward to every week!

They really should have just let the X-Files be... it's somewhat sad in light of the genuinely appalling seasons 10 & 11, save for a couple episodes which held their own. The earlier seasons are up there with the best TV ever made though.

Thanks for the review Cas - yet another tumble through 'committed' TV past.
The series has everything from humour to disgust to sultry to down right mysteriousness and action and back again.
However, it also proved the adage of too much of a good thing. And going back to what were the best earlier series feels more than a little creaky now. I laughed the other year, a lot, upon watching the first series and not with the show (Mulder) more than not. And this surprised me some, as there were episodes that actually scared me over the series and had me going, oh that's too far!
But then as I worked through the series I did become more invested again and appreciated it for what it is, pure Sci Fi fun.

Bit like Friends. While that I'm sure get sold around try he world more than X-Files, the stars of Friends still make $20m a year so imagine how much NBC are getting?

I started to watch these in HD on US Netflix (I think). I was nice to go back and watch them again. Only got 3/4 through season 1 before life and other TV stuff happened.

I'd like to get this and it is pretty good value, the DVD boxset before the shows return was over £100. However while it means it will always be on the shelf to be watched in time, I fear it might not come off the shelf very often

I am just finishing the 'difficult' series nine of the first blu ray box set. This will be my third and for some episodes fourth viewing ( tv , selected vhs and dvd box sets) of this wonderful programme. Although the quality reduced from series 6 onwards, there were still some gems in the later series.
If the event series didn't float your boat the complete series 1-9 box set may be the better buy, especially if it comes down in price due to this 'new' release.

Crikey, I purchased the previous set and binge watched the lot over about a month!

This would be maybe 5 weeks worth, Impossible with all the other shows I need to catch up on and films I have queued up to watch!

As always thanks for the review Cas :)

Really enjoyed the X Files - or at least the episodes I saw - was travelling a lot in those days.
But I don't see me working through all the series. I might just grab the episodes Cas highlighted - so thanks for the list Cas :)

Cor does Friends still generate that much revenue? I was flicking through the channels yesterday and saw it it was on Channel 5. It's on again today. I guess every country has so many channels it's a bit like a global version of the old US syndication system. If most countries have at least one channel showing the likes of The X Files and Friends on a daily basis then it will be generating a huge amount of money back to the producers. In the case of Friends that will be Warners rather than NBC who were the network which broadcast it in the US.

I guess you won't be going for this set then?

A story came up in my news feed about Schwimmer appearing in Will and Grace (is that still going?!!!!). They said it wasn't done for money since he and the rest of the cast make $20m still! I'd guess it contract for syndication would have been rewritten with their last series when they got what, $1m an episode was it?

Back on topic, if I were to get X-Files on Blu Ray I’d probably go for the first Blu Ray set as Cas mentioned. Not really fussed about the new series. If it’s the same transfer and extras I’d be happy if I can save a few quid over this new one.

Wonder why they didn't include the films as well? Both Fox releases as well
