I recently got my hands on The West Wing The Complete First Season.

This is the R2 reissue that has 6 disc's.

Problem is, I put in the first disc last night and I don't believe that it's Season One at all. I've seen Season 1 before and this just don't remember the show starting the way it did.

For anyone that's a fan of The West Wing. E1 on disc 1 starts of with story line. POTUSA was hurt in a bicycle accident.

Anyone got any ideas as to whats going on?

As the ep was first broadcast in '99 I won't bother with spoilers .
    Taken from TV.com

    Pilot

The staff scrambles to respond to pages telling them that the President has been in an accident -- he's fallen off the bike he borrowed from Leo; C.J. tries to spin the story to the press. Sam finds out that the woman he picked up in a bar and spent the night with is a high-priced call girl; Josh gets into trouble with the religious right, and, meeting with a delegation in an attempt to smooth things over, Toby makes things worse by getting into a shouting match over the Ten Commandments; Jed joins in the fray by telling them to condemn an extremist group called "The Lambs of God", and then pointedly shows the delegation the door.

I must admit I don't recall seeing this one , where as I can recall the second where Jeds doctor is in a plane that was shot down

Yeah thats how its starts on disc 1 of this S1.

I had always thought that at the start of the first season they all didn't start off working in the White House.

I thought that Rob Lowe worked for a law firm that he was sick and tired of. Bradley Whitford went to the White House thinking about joining them. When he was happy with the meeting he came back to Rob Lowe who then walked out of his job and went with him.

Ahhhhh , thats a flashback episode from a later series . It shows Josh interupting a meeting to speak to Sam , much like he did in the last series . It also shows Jed givng a speach in a small down club , which is what wins Josh over and makes him switch from Hoynes to Bartlett

    Thanks

I've seen very little of this show, but have always been trying to get around to watching it all. What I have seen I loved and I'm looking forward to watching them all.

I'm a bit of a silly billy thinking that there's something wrong

It was a great series and a shame it had to end , but there you go . Some great story arcs spanning many episodes , even series . One of the few that you can watch over and over .

I was about to buy the first season the other day, then noticed that it appeared to be full screen.

Were some of the early seasons produced in full screen (if so, when did they switch to widescreen?).

Seems a bit strange as I'm sure ER which probably started about 6 years earlier was filmed in widescreen right from the start.

I had gotten the 1st season mixed up with either the 2nd or 3rd season.

Thing is, I had seen either the 2nd or 3rd season on dvd before and the picture quality was poor.

Having started to watch the 6 disc reissue of season one, I have to say that I'm impressed with the picture quality. Nowhere near the bad quality that I had been expecting.

Could it be that the quality of the reissues have improved? Or is it that either the 2nd or 3rd season has just poor picture quality?

    Hi,

Just to confirm, The West Wing started broadcasting in Widescreen (or rather being produced in Widescreen) from Season 3 onwards. The Region 1 and Region 2 boxed sets (either the individual Seasons, or the Complete Series Premium Deluxe Set - which is Region 1 only - with every episode in it) are in 4:3 for Seasons 1 and 2, then 16:9 widescreen for Season 3-7. In the UK, there isn't a Complete Premium Deluxe Set yet, containing all 7 seasons together - at least not to my knowledge, though a Seasons 1-6 set is avaiable, called the "Josiah Bartlett Years"!

The Flash backs you are thinking off at the start of the second season, its a double episode that tells of how they all come together.

There is a Complete 7 series box set in the UK but I dont think you could call it "Premium Deluxe" as its just all the 7 season box sets stuffed in a box

Having got my hands on the 1st season, I now tracked down the 2nd season 6disc reissue r2 dvd set.

The 2nd season is the one I seen before, its the one that I said had a poor picture quality.

I've had a look through it and I can say the picture quality is a vast improvement over the old R2 2 part boxset.

Just thought some people might like to know that.

    HI,

Cheers, Battle! :) I notice that in the US, Amazon has the special Deluxe Preimum set available, which can be seen here!

However, it states that the set is in 4:3, but does that only apply to Seasons 1 and 2, or all 7 seasons?
