I suppose I should clarify why I think the way I do about this film.

I liked M.N.S' other films but didn't think this was as good as them and I was really disappointed with the ending.
I'm one of these people that doesn't usually "get it" (I mean the twist) when watching these type of films, but with this one I did.

Which is why I am a little harsh with my opinion.

i see we have a movie that yet again divides public opinion. I think his best film is far and away UNBREAKABLE - the mood the pacing, all of it fits together so well. SIGNS i thought was a bit poor but i've seen worse. The SIXTH SENSE was spoiled for me as i knew the twist - thanks to Mr Jack Dee (i'm still going to slap him if i see him in the street!!)

Then we come to THE VILLAGE. it started quite well and looked quite good but the pace as never going to trouble a very tired sloth and had just run all the Alpine peaks with a full pack without stopping. if the film got any slower it was going to stop!!

after 40 mins my head became populated by Homer Simpson - all i could hear was Homer shouting "BORING, BORING" in my head. after an hour i was thinking about running roundd the room to get my heart beating again my but my brain had given up hope. My attention finally flatlined at about 80 mins. By the time the "twist" appeared, i had long since given up any sense of interest.

The movie has more flaws than a tower block, but i wont go into those here for those who havent seen it.

If you like his work then you may find that you love it but think that M. Night is fast becoming the most boring director working today. All in all very very dull and very very disappointing.

    ***** POSSIBLE SPOILER *****

Full of holes, flaws, badly paced, obvious to all but an idiot, and finally.....Why didn't one of the Elders go?

I think his best to date has to be signs....very creepy.
Yes, I know that the idea of aliens being sensitive to water is a bit silly, but that was deliberate, MNS way of saying that the film is not really about sci-fi or aliens but everything about faith/grieving etc etc.

Unbreakable and Sixth sense were very good but once you have seen the "twists", repeated viewings tend to be a bit more boring (bith these films hinged on the twists, so once you know what they are the film loses most of its charm)

The village was very good until you find out that the creatures are elders dressed up. From that point on it holds no surprises, becomes tedious, and the suspense that kept you going as you wanted to solve the riddle of the "red cloaks" has vanished.......so overall a poor ending i think.

I liked The Village (not as good as Sixth Sense) but way better than Signs.
He's a mixed bag for me this chappy. I wouldn't purchase The Village though, as unlike Sixth Sense I feel it has no replay value. my opinion mind

It' a bit like Eternal Sunshine (hate it / love it).

    :suicide: Oh sh**
Sorry (damn, how stupid do i feel?)
Sorry again, didn't deliberately try to spoil it ('twas late, i was tired, poor typing......etc etc)

If,it's any consolation, the film is still worth watching and is far better than others like dreamcatcher.

(I think i owe you a  for that mistake 'o mine)

PS...Chillo, don't suppose you could amend my quote so that others can't see the plot soiler? cheers

not trying to be funny...but what did you actually enjoy about it???...I'm open minded and have enjoyed his previous films...but this?????I reckon you could have condensed it into about half an hour.....and it still would have been boring.

It was that good I started to fall asleep when I was watching it, I wonder if Night's films will get any better as they went downhill after the sixth sense

Yes, I wanted to see if the film got any better but no luck it was rubbish

M Nights films seeem to get gradually worse as they are released, his best film for me was the sixth sense and I did not like any of the others.

I would not buy this film even if it was in the bargain bin as that were it belongs
