Playing the Banana album last night, I was suddenly struck by the remarkable similarity between it and the La's debut album. Then I got to the song There she goes again by the Velvets and realised just how similar it was  Anyone know if this was intentional ??

Lots of bands were influenced by Velvet Underground. The Velvets may not have achieved universal acclaim for their music, but they have influenced a whole load of bands afterwards.

I was familiar with the La's track when I first heard the debut VU album (in about 1989) and I couldn't believe the similarity let alone that there didn't seem to be too much of a fuss about it.

But now, well I don't hear the similarities as much i.e. it no longer sounds like a rip-off to my ears.

Only one of the tracks is about heroin though, isn't it ?
