The Ultra-Ultraviolet/Digital Copy Thread

I'm not a big spidey fan, so went for Passengers as I haven't seen that. They've replied asking me to create a Sony Pictures Store account - looks like it's going to be credited there instead of Google Play.

I have a conclusion to this Sony issue now. They say that Total Recall (2012) isn't available anymore, although it is actually listed on Google Play (for an almighty price of £2.49 which might be just a little bit high). That's no problem as they've sent another code for me to use if it ever does become available again (okay, that's cool, but not holding my breath for that to happen) and like Universal have also offered a free choice of another movie. So I can choose something better from their list...
Interestingly, the UV code that came with the Total Recall (2012) UK bluray wouldn't input for me either first time I tried in August last year. I contacted Sony and they said that the movie was no longer available for streaming, but offered me a choice of 10 alternative movies - I already owned the decent ones on the list, so didn't bother proceeding. However by chance I tried redeeming the original TR code again a couple of days later and it inputted fine, with the unrated Directors cut porting through to Vudu, MA, US itunes, UK google, etc. The porting of course wouldn't happen now post-July.

I randomly tried the replacement Total Recall (2012) code at Flixster and surprisingly found it was accepted there. Shortly afterwards, all my Flixster movies disappeared, which may or may not be related, however they're back now following a support ticket raised on that site over the weekend.

Hope this Flixster content finds its way to Google Play in due course, since there's no easy way to watch it; also it's irritating that the first Hobbit movie is located there whilst the other two went directly to Google Play, so it'll be satisfying to unite the trilogy!

In the meantime, I discovered that Google Play titles are reasonably convenient to watch on my main television using the YouTube app for Xbox One. Quite handy when the TV itself doesn't have the Google Play app!

After a few emails I got Skyscraper and Halloween. I decided on watching Skyscraper last night which didn't prove to be easy.
I always watch movies on the projector and not the TV but thought it would be easy to watch via the YouTube app on the UHD player. Nope, Skyscraper just sat at the loading screen, any other movie I selected played fine.
I've got a Fire Stick and a Chromecast, neither of which have been used for ages so had to wait for updates to install. YouTube app on the Firestick will play YouTube videos but not the movies in my collection. I then found that using YouTube to stream to the Chromecast results in 2.0 sound and this is the same using the YouTube app on the UHD player.
Eventually, as it was getting late, I watched Halloween by streaming from an Android tablet to the Chromecast. 5.1 sound and an HD picture although the movie was utter pants. Glad it didn't cost me anything.
This was the first time I've attempted to watch a movie from my UV collection. I definitely won't be buying any movies through the Google Play store. Physical discs for me, better quality and so much easier.

Apple TV films always look much better for me than Google's, even in HD let alone 4K.

Just claimed a T2 Trainspotting code, however disappointed to find that it redeemed into my Sony Pictures Store account instead of Google Play. I wonder if that's more likely to happen before the code has expired? That one expires 31/12/2019 and I also have a Starman code to claim which is another Sony title with the same expiry date... maybe it's best to wait until next year to redeem it whilst preferring to build my library at Google Play or perhaps waiting makes no difference?

Has anyone been able to redeem the code from a 4k copy of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? It's forcing me to create a Sony Store account and then link my UV account which is no longer accessable.

I have emailed Sony and even they are unsure of what is happening due to the shut down of UV. Last week I redeemed a bunch of Sony movies and in got Google Play codes.

That sounds similar to my experience with T2 Trainspotting and Total Recall (2012) previously. Linking a UV account doesn't seem to achieve anything -- mine is linked, having done so before UV closed, but titles in my UV library don't play on the Sony site (despite being visible there) and titles in my Sony library aren't visible or accessible to play elsewhere (Flixster Video).

Is there any pattern to what movies get a download code? Looking at catalogue like 4k Casino and Scarface the US artwork shows a download option but the UK ones don't.
I think you’ve hit it on the head - the only UK studio who give codes with discs now seems to be Lionsgate. All the others seemed to have stopped completely.

I always expect that if any US artwork shows a code, it will be missing from the UK release - hence me picking up all the MCU 4K discs from the states.

Whether or not we’ll see this pick up again after October when the UK UV/Flixster fiasco is supposed to be sorted, I don’t know. I wouldn’t think so - I think the UK market has well and truly spoken - but you never know......

Not necessarily - it’s just wholly dependent on the film and the studio. I redeemed the code for the first XXX (don’t judge......:() yesterday and even from Sony’s own redeem site, the original UV code diverted me to Google Play and redeemed perfectly.

So not necessarily.......fingers crossed! Edit: Just seen that it’s from Lionsgate so hopefully it will just redeem and offer Google Play as your provider.

I've read the Sony Pictures Store closure notice (below) twice and still can't see that it says anything about what's happening to content held in Sony Pictures Store that isn't linked to Flixster Video. I have movies in Sony Pictures Store from recent UV code redemptions or added directly by Sony customer support. I also have several more unexpired Sony UV codes that I haven't redeemed yet because of other such codes still adding to Sony Pictures Store instead of Google Play:

IMPORTANT ACCOUNT NOTICE

To Sony Pictures Store users:

Thank you for using Sony Pictures Store to watch your favorite movies and television shows!

Following the announcement by UltraViolet that it discontinued its service on July 31, 2019, we are writing to provide you notice that Sony Pictures Store is planning to discontinue new account sign-up on December 31, 2019, and will shut down its website, applications, and all related operations on March 1, 2020.

Please continue to enjoy the movies and TV shows in your library until this date, and if you have any questions, please reach out to our Customer Service team.

In addition, if you have a Flixster Video account in a territory other than the U.S., please log into Flixster Video for further instructions on migrating available videos in your library to Google Play via Flixster Video, which would include available Sony Pictures content you may have there.

If you only have a Sony Pictures Store account, please contact our customer support team to inquire about the content in your library.

Please note: if you have unused and unexpired digital codes, you can redeem those valid digital codes on Sony Redeem!

Hmm can;t see where to register movies on flixster now, following help took me to WB and from there to movies anywhere, should I register them there? will they get to G Play?

Can I still register UV codes?

Lots to go at here - loads of information in the first post in the following thread:

But in a nutshell........

UV, the main code of choice here in the UK, has now closed down. The main UV provider, Flixster, remains open until December to enable people to access and migrate their collections they had previously redeemed via Flixster to now play in Google Play but not register new codes.

However codes can still be registered: you will need to likely register them with the studio the film is from (WB, Universal, Fox, etc). When you register the code there (it will be on the slip of paper where this studio portal is), they will offer you Google Play as the provider for watching your films. Redeem and follow the link and it will take you GP - most codes are unable to be redeemed directly in Google Play, you have to go through these studio portals first. There may be odd exceptions where you can only redeem via Flixster, but then you're out of luck.

This is only for UK codes however. For US codes, its the same situation, however most now redeem via Movies Anywhere, a new amalgamated provider only for use in the US (it sounds like you're trying to redeem a US code if you're being taken to MA). The link above will explain how to set an account up and how this means you can access films in your UK Google Play account.

Check out the link and the thread and it has all the information you will ever need. Good luck!

Just a quick reminder that Sony Pictures Store closes at the start of next month (see notice above). I contacted them via the support address a few days ago regarding the movies in my account that I can't access any other way - they've now replied with some new codes that successfully redeemed to Google Play instead. I've also entered my remaining UV codes for Sony movies now, which all redeemed to Google Play too.

Whats the support address? Cheers

UPDATE ...

A few hours later I received codes for content of mine which did not migrate properly to Flixster and/or from Flixster to Google Play. Nice!
Dear customer,
Please redeem the following code(s) at redeem.sonypictures.com and choose Google Play as your retailer of choice:

Have to give some kudos to Apple, I just redeemed some really old expired codes (2012) that came with some new Blu-ray that I bought and they redeemed fine, but they seem to be SD only. Will these ever get upgraded to HD or is SD the best the up ever be?
That's interesting. I came across an iTunes code in a blu ray I watched recently, I never used to bother redeeming them and this would have long since expired. I'll have to try redeeming it if I can remember which movie it was.

Both Brides Maids and Knight and Day were so old that they actually come with a disc that you put in your PC and transfer the film and you stop have to enter a redemption code. Although after the first one I realised you can just enter the code into iTunes. Found another one today in the A Team that transferred fine too.

Pretty new to this UV stuff but have been trawling through my discs for codes and managed to snag a few in my Itunes account.

I have a bunch that are redemable via Warnerbros but they go to Google play, is there anyway of getting them into my Itunes account ?

Im just tidy, hate everything spread all over the place.

Short answer, no. Basically everything bar a very few Paramount codes go through Google Play. To be fair, better than nothing.
