Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of John Carpenter's The Thing for 5th October 2004 with a retail price of $19.98. The big news here is that rather than a simple re-release, fans will at long last get John Carpenter's classic in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen!  :smashin:

    About bloody time
This film has never been out of my top10 since I first watched it, late at night; all on my lonesome as a young teenager in the early 80's [IMG]

Great news as now i can finally replace my 4 year old version, its probably just the same print with an anamorphic enhancement but it was a decent pic to begin with
(some film grain but i can live with grain) so the enhancement will make it a worthwhile buy.

Hope they fix the layer change -- it's in a horrible, horrible place.

Plus they really should dump the extras on a second disc: I don't know why not, far less "prestigious" and undeserving films get 2 disc treatments ("Freddy Vs Jason" anyone? ).

    But they won't. Ever. Nadgers.

    regards,

I do love The Thing. Never get bored of it. I've seen the film a number of times I have come to the conclusion that neither MaCready or Childs are infected. The scene is simply meant to keep you unnerved.
