The Thin Blue Line just got thinner

Thanks for the clarification. :smashin:

It was Specials that arrested for having ammunition. ...But I suppose media could misunderstand 'Specials'.

The met commissioner press statement made no mention of who brought the suspect in just the suspect shot the custody sgt and turned the gun on himself and the investigation is ongoing.

For all we the arresting officer could have been a fire arms unit and his gun was taken off him etc.. best wait till the facts are known first before jumping the gun.
It's been stated by the Met pretty much from the outset that no police issue weapons were discharged.

Now confirmed that the suspect was handcuffed at the time.

RIP Sgt Matiu Ratana.

Turns out he was cuffed with his hands behind his back.

The Met confirmed he was handcuffed with his hands behind his back and had been taken to the custody centre in a police vehicle, before being escorted into the building.
The shots were fired as officers prepared to search the suspect, who was still handcuffed, with a metal detector, the IOPC said.
"A non-police issue firearm, which appears to be a revolver, has been recovered from the scene. Further ballistic work will be required," said IOPC regional director Sal Naseem.

He must have had the gun in his waist band to pull it out that quickly and get two shots off.

I heard it was 6 shots.
5 at the officer and 1 at himself.

What's the current police pandemic practice on handling a detainee? Social distancing is out of the window, right? (or probably not, just thinking aloud) So PPE? Extra time required for everything as a result?

Social distancing is impossible when arresting someone. PPE should be used if possible, but its generally not going to be medical grade (cheap face mask and gloves at best). Some changes to custody, having less people around at the same time. Lots of cleaning.

Do you guys get regular COVID testing?

Coppers can't suffer harassment, alarm or distress and now covid

How do you think the officers who arrested him must feel now. The problem is the police have their hands tied because the powers that be think they should treat these criminals with respect and not hurt them if they struggle or get violent. I wouldn't have their job at any price. calling these criminals by their first names doesn't instil respect.

I think that they must - rightly - feel like stupid irresponsible idiots that got their colleague killed unnecessarily because of not taking a couple more minutes to do a thorough search of the suspect

I’m in the US, where BLMantifa wants the police to be defunded. Is the same exact thing happening in the UK?

Oh don't hijack this thread with your political bullshit

No idea what your agenda is is frankly, I don’t care. But it has no place whatsoever in this thread so please, just take it elsewhere.
