Just wondering why this forum is forum is called 'Blu-ray DVD players' when Blu Ray is a format in its own right and is not in any way based on the DVD format? Shouldn't the forum just be called 'Blu-ray players'? Makes more sense.

    A couple of ideas:

    Because they play DVDs too.

Or maybe because DVD has become a sort of generic term for an optical disk with video on it.

All Blu-ray players also play standard DVD discs as well. So why not?

I suppose that's true, but we didn't call DVD players DVD CD players when they first came out.
