Back in the late 70s, when the original TV show was set, there was a certain level of authenticity about the series. Back then, unofficial backhanders to criminals in exchange for information were quite common and some of the more unorthodox methods employed by the Flying Squad landed a few of them in prison and to more losing their jobs and pensions. In our more enlightened times, I was quite surprised to find that the Flying Squad still exist, and even if they are more of a specialist intelligence gathering team than a gang of semi-reformed thugs these days, they still foil some very high profile cases.

So where does this leave the new film? A couple of hours of serious minded professional police officers holding clandestine mobile phone calls with their grasses, filling in the paperwork and then phoning SO19 for a tactical strike really would not make great viewing. I cannot quite imagine being riveted to the screen as Regan asks for permission to be involved in a...

good review, i quite enjoyed the movie (and have ordered the steelie from amazon) but that might be because i was expecting a huge pile of steaming rubbish so was pleasantly surprised when it turned out quite enjoyable...:D

Personally I thought this film was a complete and utter let down.

The dialogue was extremely weak as in whenever they couldn't think of what to say they would insert the default word of "f" and it just felt lazy and tiresome after a while.

Plan B was an horrendous choice for 2nd in charge of London's elite flying squad. Totally unbelievable in the role and could not act to save his life.

The speeded up car chases also annoyed me.

The "penthouse" flying squad base was weird and what's with Plan B holding a rifle on the front cover of the poster ... which he never uses or even holds in the film ?

Oh and Ray needs to cover up a bit too, as he was clearly a "babe magnet" in this film

Sorry Guys, did not enjoy this one bit, thankfully I just rented it from sky box office, but thought it was a shambles and one to forget for me :thumbsdow

That about sums it up for me. When it was first announced, I thought it had disaster written all over it, went to see it out of curiosity more than anything and really enjoyed it.

Its decent, imo, nick love has ripped off the bank shootout from heat, and the look of collateral and miami vice for the london night shots, it looks very good for the money.
Its a decent stab at a british crime drama, that is entertaining but ben drew as the 2nd in charge of flying squad is bad casting though,
He warms to the task but even so.
8/10 from me but i love crime/drama.
With a 2million budget they done great.
Music score is very good also which defo elevates the film.
Picture 8.5
Sound 9
Extras 8
Overall 8

He isn't the 2i/c...Regan is. The department is run by Daniel Lewis' character who's name escapes me...

He does use it - at the back of the cab office when he tortures the guy
