I know many people probably check out DVDReviewer.co.uk but for those that don't...

4 DVDs available from The Sun tomorrow, to be collected from Blockbusters:-

Sophie's Choice, The Boys From Brazil, Raise The Titanic, The Cassandra Crossing

I am in no way connected to The *** nor do I wish to promote them...;)

It's also being advertised on TV. Basically seems like you have to go to your local blockbuster branch that day I believe. It is not a collect x amount of tokens.

They ran something similar a few months back for the first couple of DVDs and the others you had to send 20 pence in an envelope....needless to say that one never arrived.

Still, thanks for the info, I have a few titles to return to Blockbusters anyway

Does anyone know how they are presented? I.E. in a plastic case or cardboard sleeve. and what format W/S anamorphic or 4:3 and if they have chapters or just watch in one go.

I don't know... but I suggest you spend that 20p or whatever the sun costs, and just find out for yourself. What is the point in worrying about the quality of them, and the special features. They are free dvd's, go enjoy lol. You can always just throw them away or sell em on ebay ;)

SOPHIES CHOICE...... 4.3 A.R.....AUDIO...2 CHAN STEREO....and comes with chapters disc presented in a cardboard sleeve.

Can't recall if you had to fill in a coupon last time with your name, address and D.O.B. to get the the DVD from BB.

More junk mail winging its way shortly.

What make you think I wasn’t? I was going to get if I got no reply, from Monday that is, which is worth it just to get the Jerry Goldsmith theme music.

Oh do you have to be a member of Blockbuster to get the offers?

I wonder if Blairs Blunkett will put info on our ID cards that some of us are Sun readers (NOT ME) and then Rupert can have access to another captive audience....or will it just go tits up like the rest of the Sun and this gov's I.T. programs

The Boys From Brazil looks to be in 16:9 but is non anamorphic so will have to be zoomed for W/S sets. The transfer is not perfect from just taking a quick look at it on the dogs scene, vertical lines can be seem a number of time on the close up of Gregory Peck.
Not bad for 30p though.

I'm off to collect my 'The Boys From Brazil' now. A bit late but I hope they have it...

Good news on Raise the Titanic it is in 16:9 and anamorphic, but the film was 2.35:1.
Good film score by John Barry. Looking forward to The Cassandra Crossing as it has one by Jerry Goldsmith.

Pointsofview did you manage to get your DVD?

sounds to me that they're just the existing Carlton discs thrown into a cardboard sleeve and given away... saves spending the £5 they usually go for.

I wouldn't mind Raise The Titanic, but I've already got the Boys from Brazil, only paid £5 for it, but it certainly sounds identical to the one they're giving away - letterboxed 1.85:1 (not 16x9 enhanced) with a dolby 2.0 mono audio track and not exactly the best transfer I've ever seen. Still, at £5 I'm happy enough.

Yes they are what I think was The Silver Collection.
I wish they had included Capricorn One which I’m still waiting for a proper version.

Quoted from DVDreviewer.co.uk:-

"I don't know if this applies to all Blockbuster stores, but my local one (Wilmslow) have a box of free DVD's on the counter. Basically, they're most of the ones that were free with the News of the World or the Sun if you took the voucher to the store.
I got:
The Fast Show
Fawlty Towers
Starsky and Hutch
Cracker
Prime Suspect
Poirot
Open All Hours
Yes Minister
Most are just one episode, but who cares if they're free?
They also had a few PC games and a seventies audio cd."

The only other freebie my local BB had was an audio disc, not a bad quartet of films mind you....good old Rupert, just off now to cancel my sky subs.;)

I'm happy with my little quartet collection, albeit in paper cases. I'm not too fussy.;)

Also thanks to Carlton/ITV - I don't suppose The Sun will owe them any favours for the next 9 months.:clown: Expect to see Rebecca Loos plugged in The Sun thru Saturday, she's on ITV at the weekend ...as if you didn't know.
;)
