The Last Starfighter original screenwriter Jonathan Betuel is taking the concept to TV.
He has teamed with the Los Angeles-based Surreal.tv to develop and shop The Starfighter Chronicles, incorporating special scenes that enable viewers with virtual reality headsets to observe their surroundings
The 1984 film was directed by Nick Castle, and stars Lance Guest as Alex Rogan, a teenage boy who, because of his exceptional skill at video games, is recruited by an intergalactic fleet, the Star League, to help defend the galaxy against the evil forces of Xur and his Kodan Aramada.
The Starfighter Chronicles will drop the film’s video game recruitment angle and will instead focus on intergalactic law enforcement, presumably on the part of the Star League.
