I refuse to buy the single layer, double sided snapper case version, even for £3.99 from wollies, but does anyone know about a future half-decent release for this magnificent film?

I think i heard a while ago that a SE was planned, but i have no idea.

    Anyone have any idea?
    Cheers,

    Matt

Are you purely interested in a R2 release?
R1 is dual layered and 5.1.

Just looked at the DVDsoon website and saw the box office take $60m. How can such a superb film take so little at the box office?

    Cheers

It seems to have been one of those films that gained popularity through word of mouth after its initial release in the cinema and gained an almost cult status!
Definately in my Top 30 all time favorites although the book is better :)

The book is called: Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption. It was actually a short story.

I believe there will be a r1 special edition with a new transfer next year. However r2 is up in the air at the moment due to a legal problem.

There will be a 10th anniversary edition with a commentry by Frank Darabont.

I currently have the R1 release which was pre ordered because it was advertised as having a commentary by Morgan Freeman. This wasn't on thye finished disc so I'm wondering if it was recorded at all, and if so will this be released.
