It does annoy me this constant re-issuing of dvds. Even though I'm sorely tempted, I won't be rushing out to buy this SE dvd. Having already spent £10-15 for the original release, I'll wait to the SE disk is on offer.

    yeah :(
i know exactly where you're coming from, and believe me, it is most definately one of my biggest bug-bears. having said that, ones of this nature do not concern me as much as releases that are already 'planned' to have multiple versions, before even the initial one is in the shops. shawshank on the other hand is a pretty aged dvd [from the 'first time around' :p] and seeing as i have put off buying the seamingly bare-bones release, i thought i'd splash out :)

If I could shift the copy I have it wouldn't seem so bad. I tend to give original copies to my younger brother if I were looking to buy the SE version. I feel I need to justify spending money on a new release of a dvd I already have. In this way I don't feel as badly ripped off. Problem is, if I know there's a better version of a dvd I like there's always that temptation/compulsion to buy it.

Have ordered a copy from Play. £14's not too bad. Caved. Oh well, brother's happy as he's got my old copy for nothing plus the 50 min documentary off this months 'Dvd Monthly'.

    You didn't even last 4 hours... :D

Nice spot BTW, I think I'll get a copy myself.
One of my all time favourite movies.

Are you serious? I'd pay £15 for the Mark Kermode documentary :p

Having said that, if they do to "The Redeming Feature" what they did to his Exorcist doc I'll be mighty unhappy

Ha, you're wrong ...4 hrs and 33 mins actually..err..  If I had a therapist we'd be talking about my obsessive/compulsive/completist disorder or something. A few months ago I re-bought a dvd I already owned because I'd accidently ordered the 4:3 pan and scan version and not the 16:9 widescreen. Luckily they were only £11 each. Also, my brother really liked the film and only has a 4:3 tv so was happy to have it. :suicide:  :)

    *UPDATE*
    hiya
just to let you know that my copy arrived this morning...good ol postie, he even waited longer than .03 seconds to see if i was in :smashin: the shawshank redemption would have fit through my letterbox, but he also had the emporer's new groove collectors edition from dvd soon in a big chunky box that had no chance of fitting...anyway, glad its here...i just need to find time to watch all of these new dvd's i've got :p although its definately not a bad situation to be in :)
    regards

Got mine this morning from play too

Very nice packaging too. Got it for £12.59 with the 10% voucher, and my old copy was only £1.99 so I don't think I need the shrink just yet. :D

My Shawshank Redemption SE arrived from play.com and I must say it’s a well presented DVD. Love the way the 3 discs are held in a ‘book’ type from as opposed to a floppy fold out cardboard thingy.

Extras look nice also. Will enjoy watchin this one. At last one of the best films ever had got the release it deserves.

I looked on Play.com earlier and they stated they were packing this item. Now it's processing again!?

Shipped Sun. Can't say I'm too bothered as to whether a dvd is dts or dd.
