i think id quite happily buy a second one, use the original for modding or put it downstairs on a projector and save me moving it. Nice news to hear here. hopefully quieter with a cooler cpu?

i figure that the cheapest, and therefore best way to implement HDMI is via a new cable for the existing Xbox. The fact that they are adding an HDMI socket to the new box must mean that they can't/won't be bringing out an cable. Further more, the fact that a third party has not released one must mean that it can't be done.

So, it looks like its buy a new box or stick with VGA or component.

LOL - now that would be rubbing salt into the wounds of those of us who trailed from store to store only to be told that they had no HD-DVD drives!!

I know hdmi can carry surround sound but where would you plug an optical cable into that revised 360?

Just looks like a decent photoshop to me.

Plus if MS were going to go to the trouble of bringing out the 360 v2 with HDMI & 120gb HD then surely they'd build the HD-DVD drive in too (provided they can get both movies & games running through it)

Where is the audio out? is it HDMI 1.3? Who makes a sound processor with HDMI 1.3? Do we have to reply on the audio from the display? (sorry but they are all pants in that department). Smells heavily of BS, as this would be a running leap backwards in functionability!

hhmmmm this can make a lot of sense because probably a million 360 owners will sell theirs cheap or give them to relatives who perhaps may not have got one otherwise and buy a new one meaning that there are more 360's out there. Kind of what happened with the DS when the DS lite came out!

I imagine the core will stay the same and the new unit will replace the premium at the same price.

In that video they plugged a DVI cable into HDMI adaptor, then that into the 360 - Odd, I would have wanted to show off a HDMI interface by plugging the 360 into a telly with HDMI inputs..

linux penguin, xbox scene tshirt, unresponsive controller

    doesnt add up sorry

id like to see them go into a menu that says hdmi.

im thinking if any of that is true then its analogue via dvi and internal soldering to a fake hdmi port

My understanding (possibly wrong) is that you can't play games on the hd-dvd drive that's currently available. The data transfer rates are just too slow and would massively impact loading times.
I doubt there's a production hd-dvd drive that can compare to the drive in the xbox, so I don't think we'll be seeing hd-dvd drives pre-installed in the console.

I don't care about 120gb hard drive. Hopefully they won't be too expensive and will be 100% compatible with the first gen consoles. That said, I've never been anywhere near to filling my current hard drive.

    Is HDMI really THAT important?

I've read some interesting articles about the scaler chip in the xbox. I'm led to believe it's not $1000 great, but it's pretty damn good, and can do 1080p no problem.

    Too many rumours.

It would be good if MS got rid of the core model and had hd dvd version with hdmi and premium one which is out now.

They can easily do 1 disc for both versions due to hd dvd 1 side standard dvd other side of the disc if the want to go down that road for games in future.

This still gives the option which was always what MS kept saying they offer compared to Sony forcing you to payout for all the extra stuff
