I defy you not to like this album !

Alright, not everybody will Techno, hip hop, rappers would probably dismiss it, but for the rest of you Im pretty sure you couldnt say a bad word against it.

I would describe it as a blended whisky, there's not the feel of a fruity, full on character single malt, just a very drinkable blend. Whats it sound like: well its got a foot in several camps, you can hear early Bowie, The Doors, The Stones, early Pink Floyd, Lynyrd skynrd, Bad Company, Stone Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam but all mixed perfectly. Couple that with Mark Lanegans vocals (Lanegan sang on QOTSA's Songs for the deaf.) and it really doesnt get much better.

This isnt one of those difficult to listen too albums, its sort of effortless, like the first time you heard Bat out Of Hell (Warning !! it definitely doesnt sound like Meat Loaf). You nod your head and tap your feet and what the fudge all ten tracks are over and your reaching for the play button.

Mixed by Andy Wallace (he of the Jeff Buckley - Grace album , Nirvana's - Nevermind, The Foo Fighters, Sheryl Crow) so you know your going to get a polished sound with big......no, I mean huge, huge drums.

There doesnt seem to be an ounce of fat on the album, it doesnt kick over new ground, but theres little doubt you could let you friends listen to it and I would doubt they would want you to switch it off.

Massive hand claps from me. I'll have another double Lanagan please

Kerrrang album of the year 1996 - but don't let that put you off! The style is very hard to categorise.

A sublime album that I've liked since the very first listen. Not a duff track in sight. Got 2 other albums by them though and can't get into them at all (Sweet Oblivion and Uncle Anasthesia).

It reminds me of the Icicle Works for some reason - perhaps its in the mix.

    A solid thumbs up.

its funny you should mention the Screaming Trees - i dug out the Singles soundtrack a few hours ago after naming it in the Fave soundtrack thread and they have a tune on there (the excellent Nearly Lost You). Must give Dust a spin tomorrow - it's been a while.

I've just ordered off Amazon for £4.40 as I really liked Icicle Works.

Which of their other albums can you recommend?

Sweet Oblivion is damn good - quite Soundgarden-esque in places.

Also have a listen to Mark Lanegan's Bubblegum - stripped down, more acoustic sounding. Josh Homme, PJ Harvey, Izzy and Duff (ex-G&R) all make an appearance. Tis good.

Mark Lanegan has a new solo album out called Bubblegum. I've only heard "Hit the city" which reminded me of QOTSA. Made me want to hear more.

I have the EP which came out a few months ago. Its not the Screaming Trees and owes more to Tom Waits than anything else, but rockier.

Kenny and Supernatural..........I presume the albums have arrived, unless of course you have done supersaver with an album like Dinosaur Jr Your Living all over me (try and buy that one heh heh heh) or Killing Jokes Pandamonium.

Mine hasn't shown up yet either :thumbsdow

I saw Marillion in London in July doing the Marbles tour. Must admit I'm not that keen on Marbles - prefer Afraid of Sunlight and Anoraknophibia.

Received my CD today  - eventually

Just had my first listen and I like it. Good mix of differing songs, as you say lots of different styles
Tracks 3 and 10 are my favourites at the moment.. Will probably change on subsequent listens.

Will have to listen to it in the gym tomorrow, hopefully it will inspire me.

    Paul
