The Rocketeer (TBA)

Reportedly Disney (under new management) is developing a reboot of Joe Johnston's 1991 thirties-set adventure film, The Rocketeer, which did poorly at the box-office.

The studio is said to be meeting with writers soon to come up with a take on the story, which follows stunt pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) as he discovers a prototype jetpack, battles Nazis, and gets the girl (Jennifer Connelly), too.

I loved that film. If this goes ahead I hope it's at least as good as the first one.

You mean King Of The Rocketmen and maybe the TV show Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe. The Rocketer was created by Dave Stevens and he will have been heavily influenced by them but they are not directly connected. The original Rocketeer comics had a bit of an adult slant to them but Disney removed that from the film. No doubt they'll do that with the new one as well.

possibly the rocketmen one... i can barely remember it. must have been late 70s / early 80s....

the only comics i read as a kid were the Victor, Hotspur and Eagle. and the odd beano and dandy but i was much more into war comics (my dad used to read them too :))

The comics were first published in 1982. The Rocketeer's girlfriend Bettie was based upon the glamour models Bettie Page and Brinke Brinkman. Rockekeer creator Dave Stevens married Brinkman and befriended Page. He based his Betty's image on his wife's body and Page's face.

I really enjoyed the 1991 film and was surprised it wasn't a bigger hit.
I think it captured the lat 30s very well and had a great cast.

I remember some of the less than flattering reviews of the 1991 original at the time, sayign Billy Campbell had the boringly handsome look. However the film was superb, with one of James Horners best scores.

The comic is fantastic and although the film stuck closely to Dave Steven's artwork, it lacked the comics grit and cheescake. They should get the guy who did Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow to direct a remake.

I loved that film too so it might be a good idea.

Fly on the wall when he explained that to his wife.
