i see alot of very interesting people on these forums these days with some very interesting opinions.
what i want to know is :
what is the best tv they've ever seen?
what is the reference set that every one compares their new purchases against?
it doesn't how old the telly is,but keep it 28/29/32 inch.
and we're talking picture quality alone here.

Philips 32PW9509 running Star Wars Ep 2

Pixel Plus will save us all :D

(however even this is not a patch on the 61" Sony plasma they have just released, saw it running with a blu-ray HD recording, which was like looking through a window, a window that makes real life look even better)

The best CRT today is Panasonic 32PD30 or 36PD30, no question!

It's the reference TV all manufactures are trying to compete with.

I have seen the 36PD30 a few times and picture is unbelievable.

Bang Olufsen is "crap", most technically minded people would agree with me, just like people think Rolex watches are the best but they don't know what they talk about, in that case Patek Philip is worldclass watches for qualityminded people.

32PD30 is nothing like an AVANT, OPEN YOUR EYES, Technically minded??? Electronics degree! I used to think B&O was "crap" "style over function" until I actually spend some time with it and realised it is very, very good! Very expensive, But VERY VERY GOOD! Dont hate it because you cant afford it!

although the pd30 is a fine tv & is your opinion, which you are welcome to.

I can afford it but i am not dumb as some people are to buy it :suicide:

Your ignorance is typical for a BO owner, seen that many times....

It's like a religion for you.

BO was never good and will not ever be any good.

no i dont like BOSE, and neither am i a B&O Owner....
BOSE are very good at what they do,selling very small boxes that make sounds.
Your assumptions are unfounded, and if you put them aside and actually looked at the product, not the price tag you might see why it is so good, PQ

    What a weird comment!!!!!!!

The PD30 has the ability to be one of the best TV's around.

Unfortunately mine is a piece of crap as are several other peoples.

When it comes to it I'd rather settled for something that I know worked well.

On that front I'd imagine Hornydragon has it spot on.

Could you imagine B&O having crappy customer service and not solving peoples problems for example?

A TV is only as good as the company behind it and the B&O and Loewe stuff I've seen is utterly superb.

However, to get what I wanted I couldn't afford it.

I'm extremely happy with my Sony KV32FQ70U - not the most expensive set in the world but a superb picture at a very good price. I appear to have got a good one.

Lizzards comments about B&O being 'crap' are interesting as is his reluctance to elaborate on them. Since being a technology partner of Philips for many years now, B&O are able to take advantage of a highly innovative organisation who's ability to produce industry firsts is extraordinary. I have a B&O System 5000 for music which was built in 1988 and still looks stunning and performs perfectly. Everyone comments on the good sound quality particularly from the CD (Philips mechanism). Recently I was looking around for a LCD TV as the lounge is ahem 'compact' and I wanted something that would not dominate the room. I looked at LCDs for about 3 months and ALL of them were a let down, particularly on an analogue signal feed - noisy, grainy pictures with varying degrees of motion blur and restricted viewing angles. I was wandering past the B&O showroom and saw the Beovision 6 on demo - all I can say is that is blows all other LCDs I have seen away. Pictures are clean and natural looking and extremely watchable. I bought one and have been delighted with it. Yes, it is expensive but there was nothing I saw that came close to matching the picture quality. IMHO, B&O products provide a more rewarding ownership proposition than a lot of of brands. Not everything they have made has been great, eg the early MX range of TVs where known for poor quality picture tubes (not Philips !) and various problems such as cracking circuit boards. However, in general they provide a refreshingly different slant on the world of electronics and their design. As a final point, anyone that has any doubts on their ability in the hi-fi arena, should read a review on their new Beolab 5 loudspeakers - just awesome !

Whilst I cannot comment on the best image I've ever seen, I can safely say it has not eminated from a plasma, LCD, or projection television! CRT's rule in PQ terms IMO. Having said that, the latest digital projectors are starting to mightily impressive (especially over short distances). Problem is they cost 10x as much as the equivalent CRT.

B&O make fine tv's but I find they can be too "accurate" and "transparent" for their own good IMO. They're totally unforgiving with anything but the best signals/sources (a bit like expensive Hi-Fi, in that regard!).

I dont know what the bench mark tv is or what to judge my new purchase against. However When I buy a tv and get it home in order for it to come up to my standard it must have the following.

    Good geometric lines!!!
Now I know crt televisions suffer from bad geomatry but most can be fixed in the service menu unless it is from left to right. In that case it does not come up to spec.
No bloomin dirty screen effect!"!!!!! . I can not stress how utterly anoying this is!!
A good picture once calibrated with dve disc. Whats a good picture I hear you all cry? well one that looks good to me , in my opinion , to my eyes , What I expect,...............................as long as it looks good to me thats all that matters.
