Basically, and even though I've posted about it before, it really does pay to look about.

Since 'not' being a staunch Play customer, I've taken my blinkers off and been quite amazed.

I now compare prices (every time) between-

    Play
    DVD BoxOffice
    AB Sound
    Movietyme
    Future Entertainment
    CD Wow

These are my core suppliers. I will sometimes look at others at www.dvdpricesearch.co.uk to see if there is a better deal. (I don't work for this site, but it's bloody good!).
To date, it really is a revelation at the differences in price you can pay for a disc.

So far, speed of delivery, service, online site content, packaging has all been roughly the same. So the only real difference is price!

Knowing what I know now, why should I pay £17.99 from one supplier when another will do 'exactly' the same disc for £12.99 let's say? And it does happen, very frequently!

A big thank you to Play for urging me to shop around. When they started the disclaimer thing, I've been elsewhere and not been disappointed by others. Even DVD BoxOffice have really improved, price and speed is really good now. I think the only recent disc from Play has been Seven R1. All the others cost the same, so I kept it local as it were.

I'm not moaning about Play, they've been good in the past, but............. I'll not pay higher prices anymore.

Ask yourself this, if one shop sold you a loaf of bread at 50p, why buy exactly the same loaf from the next shop at 75p? And there you have it.

I say shop around, a lot! Then maybe prices will drop even more. Maybe.

    Gen,

I did the same thing a while back, and now I just use Future Entertainment who have to be a very cheap supplier. I also just tend to wait for the discs to fall into the bargain section as well, i am not in any hurry to buy discs, so will wait. Just got AI R1 2 disc for £12.99.

Oh My God!!! Nightmare. Literally. It was running earlier this evening ok. Total shock now.:( DVDpricesearch.com is the US equivalent, but doesn't include the likes of Fut Ent etc.

That really is a total shame. The absolute best search engine of its type, and it's shut down.

Well, at least you know there are better deals to be had out there.

I've never used Pricesearch but I do use www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk.

They seem to cover most of the suppliers I have successfully used in the past.

I've used play once but i got 'Simpson Season One' from them and a couple of the discs had wierd marks on which caused them to skipp or freeze in places. Got a replacement no probs but i find DVDBoxoffice suits my needs.

Oh and has anyone else had a complimentary mouse mat from them?, or is it just me cuz i spend to much money there? :)

I've mainly used the Canadian sites, with Play mostly for R2, or 2-disk sets that would be £17.99 anyway.

When I was in Victoria on Vancouver Island, I popped into an A&B Sound store, and it was huge with loads of big TVs and other AV gear. I'd just assumed they were a pokey little e-trader!

Anybody else remember reel.com? They used to do a quiz every day and you got a point if you got the answer right. After 20 or so points you got a $5(?) voucher. There were always free coupons, too. I remember getting 2 copies of the Matrix for about £7 :D.

    Cheers,
    Liam
