Hi guys, i'm just about to finish bioshock (what a game btw), and I was wondering what to get next. I've heard good things about the orange box and wondered if i should go for that next. I've never played any of the Half Life games before but people always say that it was a genre defining game back when it was released. I was wondering how it stacks up today compared to GOW, Halo 3, R6V, COD4 and Bioshock. Will I be disappointed?

Graphics wise it looks dated, but gameplay wise it still holds it own, and don't forget you're getting 5 seperate games on 1 disc, what more can you ask for?
Best value for money game around

Portal is the finest gaming experience I've ever played. A little short, but nothing short of awesome.

HL2, Ep1 & Ep2 are fun if you enjoy the series.

TF2 is a good blast that really rewards team play, it was a little laggy for me and haven't played it too much.

The Orange Box is a must buy, unfortunately way down my list of recently played games, but only because of COD4, GH3 and Assassin's Creed.

45% of people that have voted in our reviews poll reckon The Orange Box is worth a 10/10, me included. It's still our highest rated game in our Game Ratings on AVF.

I'd even disagree with the statement the graphics look dated, they do the job very well and create a great atmosphere, whichever of the 3 games you're playing. Most importantly it still plays brilliantly, and in the case of Portal with great innovation too.

    Get it bought!

Does it have on-line play and if so do people still play it?

Team fortress is the online aspect; people still play it, but not in the same league as COD4 or Halo. Shouldn't be hard to find a game though.

Team fortress 2 is online - i have it on the ps3 and there is never any problem getting a game. I would imagine it is the same on the 360 but no doubt someone on here who has it on 360 will confirm

Definitely worth buying. I have Gamefly so I only buy games if they are well worth it and The Orange Box was a no-brainer. Five complete games on one disc! And like others have said, Portal is awesome. Totally unique and once you start you can't stop. Tons of replay value as well with all of the bonus challenges.

Episode 2 does certainly not look dated! The original HL2 is showing it's age a bit, but E1 & E2 looks very nice.

Mine just turned up from Game this morning for £26.99. Not sure if it's the same price in store as I couldn't find a new copy in any of their shops (though they were still trying to sell used ones for £40!!).

Hmm, I bought mine off Play for £25 before xmas, you missed out! Currently playing through HL2. TBH, after Bioshock, Gears of War and Halo 3 it feels a bit of a disappointment in terms of story and linear gameplay. Still playable. Team Fortress is good fun though, although you can't really lock the rooms to play with just your friends. Great value for the price though!

I thought the story telling was fantastic, although it's my 1st go at Halflife I think it's been very well put together.

Portal on the other hand I think is one of my all time favorite games, loved every head scratching moment of it. And the ending is just inspired.

Finished Portal (not the advanced levels yet though) last night, that games worth at least £10 - £15 on its own :thumbsup:And to think I've still got 4 more games on the disc to play.

I normally don't comment about others opinion but I had to laugh when you mention HL2's story and linearity then compare it with GoW which is bascially a Visceral ultra linear shooter that they added a story to as an after thought. Its a great game is GoW but its not got a better story than HL2 and is far more linear.

To some extent obviously all FPS games have to be linear but Bioshock for me did feel more immersive and hence felt like I was choosing to do tasks rather than having to.

In answer to the Op's original question, I would say in terms of Value and entertainment there is very few games that can challenge it on the 360. Simply a must have for anybody who enjoys the FPS genre.

This is my favourite game at the moment. I like the graphics, textures aren't amazing, but it looks lovely.

The story is great and I find the game really open. I love the fact that is one big ongoing level. Basically, you could be at the end, turn around and walk all the way back to the beginning!! 10/10!

Well I'm just coming to the end of the water hazard level and I can definitely recommend this game to anyone else who's thinking about getting it. I have no idea how some people say the graphics are dated - I think they look great!

Only prob is, for some reason it gives me terrible motion sickness and I can only play in 30min stints which is really annoying. I've never had this problem before, so I'm not sure what's going on with this game?

I've heard people say this but not had this issue myself. Makes me jump when a zombie comes at you from knowhere or those nasty face hugger things leap at you.

The motion sickness is apparently to do with the field of vision the developers have given Freeman - it's set at 70 degrees, whereas most FPS's are set at 90 degrees. Something about messing with your peripheral vision makes some people feel sick. It's never affected me, thankfully.

Not had it myself but on the PC version it was something to do with feeling like you had tunnel vision, from what I remember they patched it, not sure about the 360 though, would have thought it would include any of the PC fixes:

Already played Half-Life 2 on my PC but still loving playing it again. I managed Ravenholm using only the gravity gun the other day and that was terrifying and a reasonable challenge on normal. I kept having to run about as I didn't have things to throw at the quick zombies on the roofs and the bit where I was waiting for the bucket lift was brilliant! I found myself running about at times having run out of saw blades and managed to shut one in a room and then sat outside listening to its scrabbling and howling and hoping it couldn't open doors!

Portal has to be one of the best single player experiences I've had in a while - loved every minute and thought the humour was spot on. I can't stop humming the theme tune either...

Your same as me, i ran around one part and jsut thought no no no no leave me alone shotting everything i could, think i fell and landed on a little ledge and got lucky.

Portal i agree i loved, i would be stood there for 5 minutes saying

'Right... put a portal there and put another one there, that should move that to there, but how am i going to get that to go there, and if that goes there what am i going to do with that'

But its great having to work out the stuff, so clever, i actually got a few head aches from it.
Some rooms just seemed impossible i would be looking around saying well dont see how i can do anything here, then when your in the zone thats it, i played it for liek 2 hour bursts, as once in my thinking cap zone that was it, i was away!

    Great game

No need to mention HL2 ... its legendary!!

orange box is great for its price, half life 2 alone could qualify for a full game but you get two good sized half life add on packs, portal ( a fun puzzle game), and team fortress which is an amazing multiplayer game.

    It's a great package
I've just finished Episode 2....... after playing HL2 and Episode One
I want to play them again now to get some of the achievements I missed
Like Ravenholme with only the gravity gun...blimey it was tough enough
    with all weapons available :D
Not as tough tho as the end bit on EP2 defending the base from all those striders

Portal is great too....but a couple of those advanced maps are real stinkers
and those two are going to take some beating methinks
