    Evening All,

I've just watched the recently released "The Omen Trilogy" on 20th Century Foxes R2 DVD, and I had a query regarding the second movie: "Damien: Omen II".

I remember many, many years ago, ITV showed the trilogy on late-night (post-11pm) TV, with one film each week, over three weeks. Now, I'm 99% certain that when they aired "Damien: Omen II", there was some extra gore footage, but having checked the BBFC website, it shows nothing has ever been removed or censored.

The scene I am referring to, is about 55 minutes into the 2nd film, when the lady in the red coat, (the journalist, Joan Hart), is driving away down a long country road. She is attacked by a big crow, and lies at the side of the road, before hearing a truck coming nearby. At this point, she runs into the road, and is promptly hit - struck dead.

I'm certain that when the crow attacks her, it pecked out one of her eyes, (before she staggers into the road, half blind), in quite graphic detail, yet the R2 DVD edition, doesn't include this tiny piece of the film.

Is it just me, or did this footage evee exit in the first place, or am I going insane and getting confused with numerous other horror films?!

The DVD runs to 102m 46s, if that helps anyone.

    Any help, would be appreciated.

Last time I saw this movie was on ITV many years ago.

I remember the raven attack being quite graphic with quick edits showing the beak penetrating the eyes and shots of the ruined, sightless sockets.

Now I know of no different versions of the movie and as you say, the BBFC shows no details of cuts. However, I would not put it past fox video to distribute a diluted, TV print instead of a theatrical copy. They seem to have scant regard as to their customers needs.

I'll see if I can compare the region 2 version against the US version.

    Dirk,

Thanks for your offer of help. If they have gone and censored it, then it's going to be one of those things, when people will simply stop buying all Fox Region 2 DVD's outright, and import R1 ones instead.

If the R2 editions are cut, then does that mean that the R4 editions are also cut? EzyDVD have the boxed set for sale, at about £35, (I got my Trilogy for £19-99!!!), at:

Glad to know, that I'm not going mad, with this query...! Phew! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Look forward to hearing what you have to say, Dirk.

ah ! the magic word 'FOX' <img src="mad.gif" border="0"> <br />they are a bunch of a*se holes, they did that to 'Preditor', the BBFC passed that film with NO CUTS but fox consored the film itself and gave on reason for doing so!<br />At last the BBFC is starting relax on censoring but the studios are tighting up, will we ever get films released as they where intended to be seen?

More than likely this is another case of "shared masters" like with Predator, Commando, etc where the version of the film on the disc is cut to be acceptable to the country with the harshest censorship laws and then all the other countries just have to lump it.<br />Having said that though, Omen 2 has the same audio commentary as the R1 version, which would/should mean that the print is the same. Audio commentaries disappear from films that have been cut due to the audio then running out of sych with the sound. I'd normally take the loss of a commentary to go hand in hand with a film getting cut by the BBFC, but as in this case the commentary is intact I'm assuming the same master was used for the US disc.

I've not seen either the R1 or R2 sets, but I'm pretty sure the lady had her eye(s) out aswell. She always did on TV anyway. I'm sure I've got a screener of it somewhere, I'll have to see if I can dig it out.

    Rambo,

I totally understand where you are coming from. However, seeing as I am not the only person to suspect/believe that the woman does get her eyeball pecked out, then maybe the versions used by Fox, were already pre-cut (for US TV perhaps?!), and hence this is why the audio commentary still stays on the discs, and does not go out of sync.

Regardless, I still want to know why this scene has been removed, especially since the UK boxed set edition discs are all rated 18's! If the BBFC haven't censored this scene, then someone has, and I suspect it will have been Fox getting another "cut for TV" print, ala "Predator"!

Why can't Fox UK simply be upfront about all of this? All of this dodgy censorship in their UK releases, is beginning to really **** me off big-time!

Ultimately, they're only doing their own sales figures harm! And if customers don't get uncut films, we'll simply import from elsewhere!
