The Official AVForums Bike Showroom part 2

Doug, how did you get on with the 1000sx. Top of my list for March test rides.
Will also be testing tiger 900 / 1200. intrigued by the comfort and riding position, could be great if not too meh.

Almost pulled the trigger on a 2002 xjr1300 as a winter project. Never dealt with carbs before, don't look complex, just clean and set. If it was closer I would have prob got it tbh.

I loved it! If I can get my insurance sorted, I'll be collecting this afternoon (work permitting).

Just been up to Fowlers of Bristol to try some gloves and looked up to see a 70 plate Triumph pulling away, not sure what it was but it had the old styling and exhausts and looked and sounded like my old bikes, great time.

But by heck, bikes don't look like they used to. :rotfl:

Managed to collect the Z1000SX last Wednesday, but only got a couple of photos yesterday (I kept forgetting, so my wife took these). I haven't gone silly really, but that extra 200cc increase over my old Z800 is really noticeable! I've gone from around 100bhp to 140bhp (slight increase in weight).

The bike had a decent screen fitted by the last owner, as well as heated grips and a tail tidy. I got some Scorpion end cans and a quickshifter installed before I took ownership. It's also got panniers, but they are huge, so I'll only be putting them on if I actually need to carry stuff :)

I do like the fact that there's not any visible cage or support system for the panniers, it's all integrated quite well into the bike.

As in "Toothless"? :D

Rear wipe out mate,as we all know everyone is out to kill us but this was something I could do nothing about

I was "T-boned" by a pair of youths in a chavved up Ford Escort when I was on a pedal cycle. It was very bizarre. They came out of a side road, pushed me sideways across the road, still sitting upright, all the way until my wheels hit the opposite kerb and I toppled gently onto the pavement, still sat on my bike. Which was lying on the pavement at that point. As I was helped to my feet my only concern was for my bike  Which resonates with some of you guys at a guess :D

I've had my SX for 5 years or so now - a great bike with plenty of grunt but very forgiving at the same time. Very easy to handle around town. I still find the >5k rpm induction roar highly intoxicating........:D

I bought some inner bags for the panniers (from Kawasaki online shop); they're quite handy for segregating things in the panniers and giving you a bit more flexibility.

Enjoy!

The bikes haven't been used for a while, so just took them out back-to-back to give them a run.

I can never get over how good the Panigale sounds for a stock exhaust. Shout out to Euro 3, I guess!

This was the first time I've ridden the Honda Rebel or a bike with this style riding position, so I was actually a bit nervous. Took a few stops and pulling away before I would naturally find the footpegs. Felt like I was sitting on an armchair compared to any other bike I've ridden. Had a big smile on my face the entire ride. Nice gearbox too.

Mine is so not getting used either, on an oximisier thing, never owned one before!
my xdiavel is similar riding position feet forwards, on test ride i nearly lost it trying to find gear change first time! but soo get used to it! and it is very comfy.

What I didn't expect about riding the Rebel, was it reminded of that feeling you experience when you ride on your own for the first time after passing your test. I guess, because it was the first time I've ridden anything other than a supersport or superbike since getting my licence 16 years ago, so felt like a new riding experience again.

I test rode one a couple of years ago at the MCN Festival in Peterborough. Me and my mate both pulled away from the first junction and tried to put our leg backwards to the peg :rotfl:

Very quickly got used to it though and loved every minute riding it. And talk about quick! Wow! Some guys from Wales in the tent next to us told us that (at the time) it was the fastest accelerating bike that Ducati made. Not certain if true, but I believed them after riding it.

Yeah same here, once got was well used to it, its very comfy, only minus really is all weight on butt and large bumps/potholes etc goes right up your back, as its hard to support any weight on your legs/feet!

Its very, very rapid especially for the weight of it, off the mark I have burnt off many sports bikes etc that think im on a harley or summat lol, but its like a techno cruiser as its goes and handles very well.
I did read similar to due to gearing and power coming in lower and its long wheel base, it was easier also to launch and be faster than the Pannigale at the time.
I have not even tried the launch control after 4yrs of owning!
Posted this a few pages back, when it was very clean, I do ride all year round and sadly this has some of the worse finished parts I have had in over 20yrs of bikes.

I have an 1198 and a 999 and both of them need the whole engine casings Keracoted as have flaked away to a shadow of their former selves. The pre Audi Ducati quality control was hit and miss to say the least - I've heard it's not much better now though.

I had a 748s in 2003 and overall it was much better finished for winter at least, again rode it all winter in the salt and was not able to wash it down until weekend etc.
Had other make over the years, all pretty much honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, BMW etc to, all suffer some in road salt as its obvious really if ride in winter like.
On my Xdiavel the chrome on fork stanchions have pitting and tried to claim but as ever say its cause rode in salt, but have always done and never had this issue like. Looking at 1k or so to replace stanchions soon.
The paint on master cylinder reservoirs is peeling a known issue!
Generally seems not so good finishes on parts, but is still an awesome bike!

Went through a rite of passage this morning when I dropped the bike for the first time. My fault but so frustrated with myself as it was preventable and a careless mistake. Bike was stationary at the time so no major damage but it was dropped onto the surface of the road so a couple of scuffs to the usual spots. Only one I'm going to do something about at the moment is the scuff to the exhaust. What's the best course of action for black exhausts? Was looking at something like this: Touch-up paint

Both if it's possible with OTC touch-up paint. I don't know if the surface of the exhaust is a powder or ceramic finish but it is a very flat black that hardly reflects anything around it.

Can you add make and model or a pic?

Suzuki GSX R125. Not my exhaust (will get a picture tomorrow) but here's an example of the exhaust from someone else's 125.

Edit - Scuff has exposed a white surface below the black paint. When I looked yesterday I didn't see any exposed metal.
