Just a bit curious to see who here's got his on their shopping list for Friday...? Our American friends have had this for a week now (and for $30, but thats another story), and early reports sound very encouraging, especially regarding the netcode (aside from a couple of soon-to-be-patched scoreboard glitches at peak demand).

Loads of neat little touches could make this Live best racer so far, and the demo I've played on OXBM this month backs that up. 12 player racing with full damage - carnage awaits!

i should pick up the demo this week and have a go.

Is it more sim than arcade like pgr2 or a bit of both?

Its definitely more sim-like and less forgiving than PGR2 - even to the extent where damage actually affects the performance of your car, possibly even to fatality. And don't go on the grass!

Sounds like a winner - will be interesting to see if damage affects the standard of online driving ;)

    It's out on Friday isn't it ?

The Official Mag with the Live demo is now out - saw it in WHSmiths Manchester this morning. Worth giving it a go if you're still unsure...

Played the US version online tonight and it's a corker. Definately overtakes PGR2 for me if only cos the variation of racing classes available (and of course PGR2s lack of d/l content to date).
Netcode is a little hit and miss, mainly to do with the number you can host. The chap hosting tonight had 1mb and could only get between 5 and 7 racers. Also the ranking system was a little dodgy but this is said to be sorted in an upcoming patch.

I think the number you can host is dependant on the upstream speed of your connection, which is always smaller than the usually quoted downstream speed. A typical BT 512kb (downstream) connection will have a 256 upstream, but my ntl 600kb has just 128 upstream, and the ToCA demo suggests I can host only 8. A 256 upstream should do the full 12 no probs, so it sounds like the 1mb connection you mention has just a 128 upstream like me.

Did that make any sense?

Had a quick go on this tonight. Looks like it could be fun. Although I think it could take some time to master. You will need to learn the tracks & the braking zones.

Think I will wait to see how many people get this before spending more money on a game only to play it a few times.

i also had a quick go last night and really enjoyed it. But as Zap says it could take a while to master.

I really like the damage feature which could lead to some interesting races.

Well played online last night with demo and i've gotta say its outstanding! The graphics are very good and the handling of the only car available online was fantastic. You get a real sense of grip, body roll, controllable slides etc etc. I have always been a fan off racing simulators and this on 1st impressions meets all expectations. Huummm me thinks a trip to Woolies (if its open Sunday) today to pick up full copy:clap:

Thats right, you can only host a championship that you have completed in career mode, though you can join a room by another host who has that championship unlocked.

Codemasters have a premium phone number you can call to give you a code to unlock all championships, or a website you can go to (phone number and web address included in game manual). It costs £3ish either way.
