Is it just me, or does the new superman look like an 80's reject?
I mean, cmon! They could have made a little more effort with the suit. Not to mention the actor! A little more muscle couldnt hurt!

From the looks of this pics, all I can say is "straight to DVD".

Would have to laugh if it is a flop and the X-Men III becomes the best of the 3, but somehow I cannot see it.

Oh and he does not look big enough to be Superman.

Is it me or is Hollywood still not getting these superhero films right... even Batman begins which is a step in the right direction still got it wrong.... the fight scenes were a joke....why did someone decide that shaking the camera around as if the camerman is having a fit and waving body parts to close to the camera constitutes an action sequence, or Spiderman wondering about most of the films in a daze contemplating his exsistance.....I hope you aint right about this film AML but going by recent performances you probably are

The sad thing is whoever they had to get to play superman was NEVER going to replace Christopher Reeves he is superman in the eyes of most adults who grew up watching the movies.

He had that iconic status which this guy just has not got and that costume looks like one of those plastic ghetto superman costumes that your mum would buy you for halloween   :thumbsdow

I'm still quite optimistic about this film, given the director, but the pictures do not fill me with confidence.

The suit and the actor just dont look ... right. Not sure how else to explain it! Personally i would've had Tom Welling in the role! :D Smallville rules!

While I agree that I would have preferred if they waiting a couple of years and had Tom Welling in the role, I don't think this film is going to be bad. Sure, the Superman outfit is different, but apart from the size of the crest (which should be bigger), I think it's fine. Routh is a bit too GQ, to quote most of the press, for the role, and I think he will be the biggest issue with the film, but we'll have to wait for the trailer to see him in action so I will reserve judgement until then. I must admit I had reservations about Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, mainly because of the amazing job Michael Rosenbaum does as Lex in Smallville, but those reservations were mainly based on how he would look, not act as we all know Kevin Spacey is an acting legend. Having seen the pictures of him, I've no doubt he will excel at the role.

Either way, I am looking forward to this next summer, and I can't wait to see the trailer. If Routh works as Clark/Superman, I think it'll be fine.

Agreed, if Routh works think it will be excellent and the lad cant really be judged for what he looks like in a tight suit, although if he looks laughable then not even is acting will save him.

Spacey looks good as Luthor, looks remarkably like Gene hackman actually! :D

Still looking forward to it, but slightly apprehensive with regards to the casting of CK. (Also that suit he is wearing is straight out of the 70's!)

He's more muscular than Chris Reeve was in his first Superman movie. Reeve was frantically bulking up all through filming.

Look at him in some of the scenes in that movie, for example the one where he hands the cat burglar to the cop. Notice how the camera shoots from a low angle to make Reeve look more impressive. This was one of the first scenes shot for the movie and he is practically skinny at that stage.

Well, CK is supposed to be a complete nerd, so it'd probably, no pun intended, suit the character :)

yeah agreed, but it doesnt seem to work, he (the actor) doesn't seem to have that geeky/quirky look to him to allow him to pull off the role of CK. Reeve did this with ease and Welling makes a good job of it too.

As said previously he does look very GQ... But hey, at least its not Nic Cage!

I do remember Reeves not being the biggest guy, which is why I expected them to get it right this time arround.

Granted, as Clark Kent he is supposed to be a wimp, but once he puts on the costume, he should look more like Ah-nuld (not that he should be doing this or anything!)

The first thing that strikes me about the suit is the darker colours, not bright comic book red, blue, yellow. Reminds me of the colours of *evil superman* in Superman III

Anyone know if this is a darker take on superman, or am I reading too much into it?

I think it's more to do with the fact that bright colours say 'CAMP!' more than major super hero. I suspect they got rid of the brighter colours for the same reason they got rid of the X-Men coloured costumes, and that worked out fine for all involved.

As for size wise, I think of Superman as just a normal guy with powers. He's not huge, he's average. It always annoyed me in the comics that Clark was this huge 6ft 5 block with huge muscles and no one copped on he was Superman because he was wearing glasses and changed his hair. I've always preferred where he is drawn with as little major muscle as possible. He should just be a normal sporty guy, much like modern day footballers.

Dont you think Superman should be very dark and menacing now...the way im sure DC comics intended...didnt one of the supermans with Christopher Reeve touch on this..the fight with himself in the junk yard....come to think of it I liked the bad superman lol

I wonder if they intend to establish a new franchise with this next film?

If so will they make Routh bigger over time?.
They may also include "Doomsday", one of the big turining points in the superman comics.

To be honest I dont read superman any more and stick with Marvel. So whatever they do I may never be all that interested! :boring:

I've not read the Superman comics in a long while. I was big into them a couple of years back with the Death and the whole new costume/powers storylines going on. Unfortunately, my local comic store closed down so my nearest one is like 200 miles away. The only comics I can actually get are the Panini Collectors Editions (Spider-Man, Daredevil and Hulk, Fantastic 4, Batman and The Avengers) and there's no news of a Superman one yet, though I'd love one. I suspect we'll see one next year before the film is released.

Seems to be mixed feelings about this.

Remember the Director is Brian "Usual Suspects, X-men" Singer.

Remain hopefull that he'll do a good job :smashin:
