Hi All,

I'm upgrading to full DD/DTS from a Yamaha Pro-Logic amp and believe that Marantz have just introduced some interesting new kit. I'd quite like the new STR7200, but as it's new, I can find out anything about it as yet. Anybody got any info they could share please?

Also, Richer Sounds are selling off the top of the range Sony amp and receiver for half price, the VA77ES I think it is. Would this be better than the Marantz?

    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi,
i had a quick listen to the 7200 yesterday, and it really was a quick listen.
It sounded good enough to go back on monday for a proper play with it, quite lively tho, and that is my only worry as i have monitor audio speakers.
I will let you know what i think after the proper demo, if you want.

Btw what is the best price you've had on it ????

Im upgrading from a Sony 940, i wouldnt recommend the sonys, listened to one of the bigger ones, too bright just like the smaller ones but more of it. ( thats just an opinion )

    Hi Gizze,

Thanks for the info. Please let me know what the demo was like and how it sounds. I'm very interested. You can either E-Mail me or post it here - whichever suits. Thx

The best price I've seen so far was www.empiredirect.co.uk as they were selling it for £495 inc. vat. Not sure abou delivery tho'

I'll be using the 7200 with the Kef 2005 home theatre package so that should be interesting.
I'm replacing my Monitor Audio MA14s. Excellent speakers/manufacturer and have given good service. However, Mrs. Delmonte she say big black boxes have to go! Good excuse to upgrade eh?

I've heard that the Sony's are bright, so I'll give them a miss. Just thought the Richer Sounds price was good.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Have been keeping my eye on this Marantz for a while, it looks very capable.

It looks good competition for the Denon 3802 (from net prices there's prob. about £100 in it).

Will be very interested in any opinions on either. I'll be using it with a PSB sat package, so shouldn't be too dissimilar to the Kef Eggs ...

    Hi,

I too am interested in the new Marantz receivers, I am new to the home-cinema bug, but have been bitten big-time after seeing a friends set-up!

Currently have standard 2-channel hi-fi, and listen to loads of CD's so don't want to compromise the 2-ch ability (but at the same time, dont want a seperate processor)

Was swaying towards Yamaha, until i realised there are newer models (ie Marantz and Denon) out there with Dolby PLII. One local dealer told me to hang on for a couple of months as Yamaha will be releasing a new range with PLII?? : anyone got any feedback on that??? (I thought the Yamaha amps / receivers were fairly new anyway?)

I'm looking at either Denon 1802 or Marantz 5200 at the moment, hoping to go play with them at 7oaks this weekend. Anyone got these, if so, what are they like???

    Thanks.....

A friend will have his 7200 delivered on Monday (£499 from www.empiredirect.co.uk) I will post early next week with a review

The only issue I can see with waiting for Yamaha to produce a box with PL II is that they normally tend to launch first a flag ship box with the new features.

Look at the Yamaha 620 models, these have inherited the chips from the former high end boxes. You would have thought that Yamaha would have pushed the boat out to get a model on the market with PLII, but not a sniff of one yet.

Personally I'm considering a Marantz SR4200. It's cheap, reasonably musical and unlike some of the new "bargain" receivers (eg Denon 1602) it has preouts for all the channels (oh yeah, and more than one coax input). With a collection of off board power amps it should sound pretty good.

I managed to get an audition of Marantz 4200 this weekend at 7oaks, and to be honest I was well impressed with it! Especially DPL2. Bit thin on DSP modes, but that doesn't bother me. Apparantly hasnt got a 6 channel input, so future audio formats (DVD-Audio, SACD) wont be catered for.

Really wanted to compare it with the Denon (1602)tho, but they didnt have a Denon in stock, so may try again this coming weekend.

Might try and find the next Marantz up (5200) which I think has Dolby Digital 6.1, does anybody know anything about this one?? (think it may have 6-Ch input) Cant really stretch to the 7200 as the cheapest ive seen this is £495.

I am also interested in 5200. Actually I have short listed 3 Receivers. These are
Marantz SR5200
Sony 1070 or 870
Pioneer 859

Can some one advise me which one is better out of these and where I can find the best price.

    Cheers

My friend got his 7200 yesterday - first impressions are good, it's a very musical amp with straight stereo sounding good, Movie effects are directed very well especially in DTS. Prologic II sounded OK but it offers a DSP called CRS 5.1 which is great for 2 channel material through 5.1 speakers (much better than prologic II) I only had an hour listening but for £500 I would say a very good buy. The remote and manual were both poor though.I usually listen to a Rotel Processor / Power amp and it came pretty close in terms of musical ability.

If you have any questions about this amp please post and I will pass them on and reply
