    Hi all,
Thought I would start a thread about the above now that the new KK Q125's have been released followed shortly by the Q85's and the other soon to be released offerings. Just so we don't snarl up the other threads.

I have read David's findings on the new KK Q125's and his comparisons to the M&K S150's and MK Sound S150's but what I'm interested in is how do they compare to the S150MKII's as these are a completely different speaker with better mid bass drivers, pro tweeters and a new cross over.
    All views are welcome.

I'll just say this. Opinions in relation to what you are hearing are subjective..my ears may think something sounds ace..someone else's ears may think what they hear is rubbish.

If you're going to do any comparisons on speakers..then atleast have them in the same room, with the same partnering kit.

If you have a group of people together at that point, then you can identify any trends in opinions..but ultimately it's just that..opinions.

Unless you can do a proper A/B test using the same amps in the same room any impressions are purely subjective.

We can usually distinguish between wildly differing sounds but when sounds are similar it is difficult to pick out closely matched products when listened to at different times, hours days weeks or months apart.

It is fun to speculate as we all do but I think this debate could go on and on without any real decisive evidence unless Gecko and FH get the products together in the same room with a few golden ears. lets face it that is very unlikely to happen.:)

Agreed, but we know it has already started.

A few forum members are going to demo both and I myself want to get up to FH and have a listen.

But that doesn't stop some people hearing something they've never heard before in an unfamiliar room, in an unfamiliar system, and comparing it to what they have, and giving their good/bad opinions... :)

Rich - how familiar are you with the original S150?

    Hi David,
I am fairly familiar with the original S150 but I will admit that was a while ago.

I think in light of what Sammy has stated, which i fully agree with, we could use this thread to subjectively talk about our experiences, thoughts, and feelings towards these products as well as direct comparisons etc. Its a hobby we are all passionate about and enjoy (obsess about) very much.

I think neither product is going to be better than the other, at this level they will all be good i am quite sure. Just that some people will prefer the KKs while others will prefer the MK's or M&Ks. There will be no right or wrong.

So lets try and discuss them here without clogging up other threads with more "my speaker is bigger than your speaker" show boating (you can do that here haha)

Just a suggestion anyway :) (edit, or just basically repeating what Sammy said!)

Agreed they will both be good, but they can't sound the same, so one has to sound better than the other.

It is quite easy to compare them physically here.

The main point is that the Q125 has four tweeters in a "quad array", while the S150 has three in a "line array". These HF units are closer together on the Q125 compared to the S150.

    Both have two mid/bass drivers.

The tweeter plates on the Q125 are metal, to aid cooling - I believe the S150 to have plastic plates.

The Q125 has bi-wire terminals, so can be bi-amped, whereas the S150 can't - it is single wired.

All sides of the Q125 are smaller than the S150, so in general there will be less cabinet resonance and consequently less coloration.

While on the subject of sides, the shape of the Q125 (like the older S125 reduces internal standing waves, as only the top and bottom (the two smallest areas) are actually parallel to each other. The S150 is a square box.

The S150 will have a larger cabinet volume - the Q125 is roughly a third of the volume, by my very rough reckoning, based on the outer measurements - obviously bracing etc will reduce this difference.

The S150 has been THX certified, which the Q125 hasn't been put forward for.

When comparing the Q125 TRiFX and the S150T:

Again, the "quad array" is the first difference to be noted on the Q125 TRiFX, compared to the S150T's single HF unit.

Both have a single forward firing mid/bass driver, and two side firing 3" drivers.

Cabinet volume and shape are very similar between the two.

Again, the Q125 TRiFX faceplates are metal as opposed to plastic.

The Q125 TRiFX can be mounted directly onto the wall without the need for a bracket, unlike the S150T that needs its supplied bracket.

The Q125 TRiFX can be used in monopole, dipole, or tripole configurations. The S150T can only be used in tripole configuration.

The S150T is THX certified, which the Q125 TRiFX hasn't been put forward for.

David. Far too factual. Can't we just stick to digs and general subjective bitchiness? Much more entertaining!

As much as I'm mildly amused by the bitching, it would be nice to have an A/B comparison. Would it be possible to arrange that between David and Rob and let listeners decide?

It's like dealing with small children.

I want to know what the KK's sound like by reading other people's unbiased opinions and I will travel to FH to take a listen.
I know they will sound great.

The MK S150MKII's that I own are great and I am not going to replace them but I have an interest in all things AV so want to hear the differences.

There are people on this forum that are considering buying either the KK or the MK so let's try and help them by offering sensible opinions and views. Yes they need to demo but this is a good place to start.

    Jesus!
