The new Connect player

I was wondering if anyone knows when the new Connect player will be available for download? SonicStage 3.2 is fine but I suspect (and hope) that Connect will be much better.

If anyone has the new Walkman, can he/she share their impressions of Connect?

And If you are intending to use the new software with a HD5 or older, don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Sony said they are not going to be compatible. But there is a chance with enough complaining that they will be eventually. They might even change their mind now, or they lied, so just wait and see.

I believe Sasso was told this in an email from Sony. Of course, whoever emailed him could have got it wrong. What I recall the email saying was that the Connect Player will have LIMITED functionality with the HDx series - which is pretty understandable if you think about it: some of its newer functions will correspond to features available ONLY on the new Connect Walkmans.

Without wanting to be stubborn here, I seriously doubt that older players (as the NW-HD5, omg already an "old" player) will not be supported. It just doesn't make sense. I suppose that Connect will be the new software for the Connect service so it is commercial suicide to ban everything else before the new walkmans... Ofcourse, only time will tell... I hope this is not their plan...

This thread has the info on their lack of intentions to update the HD5
http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242391&highlight=hd5+firmware

And this has the info on the connect player incompatibility, which could possibly and hopefully be incorrect. I cant find the thread so here is the email.

Part of my email to Sony:

I have looked at the Sony UK website and found the details on the A3000
walkman. It does state that the software used to transfer music to the
player is called "Connect player". Quote from the website "The WALKMAN comes

complete with brand new software called "CONNECT Player". This software is
necessary to store, transfer and update all your tracks on your PC".
Are you sure there isn't any other information you can get regarding its
compatibility with the HD series?

Reply From Sony:
Dear Mr Sasso

Thank you for your email reply.

I do have the email address for Sony Australia. This is
[email protected]. I hope they can assist you.

I still have very little information on the NWA3000, but I now understand
that the Connect software that will most likely be supplied with this
product will not be compatible to use with Hard Disk Walkmans like your
NWHD5.

I hope this is helpful though I am sorry for any disappointment this reply
may cause as I appreciate you were hoping to be able to use the Connect
software with your Walkman.

I changed the colour of the word 'not' to make it stand out, it was initially the same colour as the rest of the text, black.

Sooooooo, will sony shoot themselves again by not making it compatible, lets see. If by the time I get a new DAP there is an alternative to sony that is decent, I think ill go with that, unless Sony have lost their stupidity.

Actually Sasso, it is not a bad idea. I am tired of Sony trying to impose a format that no-one uses (even though it's gapless) just to satisfy not the user but the interests of the company. If this player breaks down, I'm done too. I will be better off with a 50 quid player that I can do anything I want with than a 4 times more expensive one that dictates the way I listen and store music. (ok, maybe I exaggerate a bit... :D sound quality is excellent )
