Peter Capaldi as Cardinal Richelieu, "scheming, ruthless and pragmatic, and the most powerful man in France".
He may have been that but I believe France was better off with him than without him. And always gets bad press when linked to the story of The Musketeers.

Looks quite impressive and possibly more adult orientated than Atlantis which I'm presuming it might take over from
Peter Capaldi as Cardinal Richelieu looks like he will be dropped from further series as they say his work on Dr Who will take his time up and further story's of the musketeer's will have to find an other main villain.
I hope the make this less comedic than Atlantis and don't have silly stuff in like recent films.
Dr Who used to be a nine month shoot to make the usual fourteen episodes a year but they only made two this year. There's no solid news on the next series but I wouldn't be thar surprised if we get less than fourteen. If so Capaldi could return to any future series of this.
I'm sure I read an interview with the producers and/or writers saying he wouldn't return for a second season if commissioned to keep the show fresh, that was just after Capaldi was revealed as the Doctor. I'll see if I can find the interview and post back.
Here we go it was from DS so take with a pinch of salt
'Doctor Who' Peter Capaldi casting was a shock, says 'Musketeers' boss - Doctor Who News - Cult - Digital Spy
looks ok - time will tell !
Showing in my tv calendar as starting Sunday 19th January 9pm
Not 18th but Sunday January 19 (9pm), which is confirmed
That's what I said honest guv
can't help but sing this when i see the trailer
I didnt even need to click to know you were going to reference Dogtanian - as i have the same thing on my mind when i see the trailer !
Look forward to this. I missed Atlantis because the qucik traliers annoyed the hell out of me (not the content, but the timing). I enjoyed Merlin, Dr Who and even Robin Hood, so open to a new satruday tea time adventure series.
Or Sunday as the case might be.
^^ ahh misread the above
Don't worry I'd got the day right but not the date until a quick edit put it right
With a 9pm slot i am guessing this is going to e more adult in tone than Atlantis, i wonder what will be replacing them?
Probably some lame light entertainment show, oh wait isn't the voice due back on soon
yep same thing happened during the final two series of Merlin
- alas, the later slot didn't mean Morgana or Guinevere slipped into something more comfortable
Although the adaption of Kate Mosse' book Labyrinth, on channel 4 a year ago, allowed us to get a better view of Morgana.
I recall Miranda Raison (Jo from spooks) turned up in a leather looking bra top thingy and that was very distracting. or did i dream that ?
oh yes, I remember ... Isolde (as in the Celtic mythological lovers Tristan and Isolde)
- nice outfit, playing her usual character

Episode 1: Friends & Enemies
Enjoyed it, it's well cast, the tone is about right without getting slapstick, not family friendly as Atlantis which is a good thing, fun, but no quite thrilling as it offers nothing new and is quite standard fare, but's the BBC and not HBO. Hopefully there will be a few twists and surprises along the way.
Wasn't too bad at all, I did start to drift off about 20 minutes in but I was pulled back in after that. I thought the cardinal was great.
