Things are changing at The Movie Rooms. After over 5 years in our current offices we are making the move to custom built premises. We will be moving out of the City Centre and out to the seaside at Joppa, in the east of the city. The new offices and demonstration rooms will be custom built with a truly reference cinema in one room, and a smaller more flexible cinema for more day to day use. We will also have 3 other smaller demonstration rooms under construction and finished by the time we open.

Once we get further along with the build we will give details of the full kit list for each room and some details of our opening events which will be open to all AV Forums members and the public.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at AV Forums and all of the members for their support over the last 5 years of The Movie Rooms existence. We have come a long way in a short space of time and with this move will secure our place as one of the best equipped, least pushy & most knowledgeable places to buy your AV for a good few years to come.

Before we move im keen to shift some stock from the warehouse, mainly so I dont have to physically move it. You can find a list of all of the current items in stock HERE. Im open to negotiation on all of it so just email, pm or phone if you see anything. If you dont see what you require, I may have it but just haven't had time to list it so still get in touch.

We look forward to seeing you at the launch party!

    Dan - Manager

Hi there follower of The Movie Rooms I just would like to take the advantage of this space to share my experience with The Movie Rooms and with Dan:

"My experience with The Movie Rooms and with Daniel Bland has been stellar!!!

I really can't find any other words that can describe the level of satisfaction that I've reached with The Movies Rooms and with Dan.

I've bought few things from Dan, two projectors, a 2.35 150" screen an SVS ultra sub and a sonos system!

Dan has been always patient to answer to all my question and he has been always happy to help!

The customer service has been spot on and even when I had a small problem with one of the items, Daniel has proved himself to be more than just the manager of The Movies Rooms... his behaviour was more close to the one you would expect from a friend rather than from a shop manager!!!

I will continue to buy all the pieces of electronic equipment that I'll need from him without hesitation!!! Very well done Dan!!!

God bless you and your business!!! "

    Have a very good weekend,

    Ben

    Hello All,

I am not normally one to write reviews, but I thought my brilliant experience with The MovieRooms and Dan, just had to be shared with the wider forum. I finally have a fully functional Anthem MRX500 receiver, after going through 3 different AV receiver units. All through, Dan has been patient, has worked with me to troubleshoot the various issues I had and got Anthem tech support to help me out when we couldn't figure out what was going on. All said, it was a great customer service experience; and full credit to Dan!

I first purchased a second-hand MRX500 from Dan in December last year. The unit developed a HDMI fault in February. Dan had the unit picked up by Anthem. Unfortunately, due to significant delays at Anthem's end, Dan, on his own initiative, had a new MRX sent out to me. The second MRX again had strange HDMI compatibility issues with my projector. Again, Anthem were unable to figure out what was going on. Dan stepped in and offered to send a 3rd MRX out, which I am happy to report is now working fine. All through this nearly 4-month process, what was impressive was that Dan always kept me informed and never lost sight of my, "the customer's", needs!

I know it sounds like common sense, but I've dealt with my fair share of AV dealers, who all claim they provide great customer service, but never practice what they claim. Dealing with Dan was certainly a breath of fresh air!

    Thanks again Dan.

We are now proud to be one of a select few dealers to have the finest home cinema processor in the world on demonstration. The Trinnov Altitude 32. There are many pretenders to it's throne, but technically it cannot be touched when it comes to sound reproduction.

Over the last two years we are now into double figures with the amount of systems we have commissioned, combined with a permanent demonstration unit we are well placed to advise on the implementation of any Trinnov Optimiser based product, be it the Altitude, Amethyst, Magnitude or ST2 Hi-Fi; which we also have on demonstration.

I Recently made a purchase of a Receiver from Dan this made me think it is about time I gave some praise for both his professional approach, product knowledge plus his loyalty to the customer.

In the 20 years I have been involved in home cinema and hi-fi I have come across some "questionable" retailers. I found it most refreshing to stumble across Dan at the Movie Rooms, his priority has always been the satisfaction with the purchases I have made. Going back to my recent purchase, the Arcam AVR850 receiver. I live in Nottingham, this was no trouble at all for Dan to come from Edinborough to do the installation putting the face to a voice, a real genuine and laid back guy, he explained the Dirac room EQ and what it did.

There was a minor problem with the receiver along the way but nothing he could not resolve, the end result was fantastic. I thought my Marantz AV8801 and MM8077 power amp were good but they are eclipsed by the Arcam, the Dirac room eq playing its part in this. The price difference in my view is totally justified against other manufacurers flag ship receivers.

    Thank you Dan
    Phil.

I second Phil's post. Dan sold me my second miniDSP DDRC-88A unit (for a full Dirac calibration of all 11 speakers in my 7.1.4 setup) for a terrific price (an opened box special) and it was a pleasure to deal with him.

Thanks a lot guys. It means a lot when customers take the time and effort to post something on here completley un-prompted.

We dont pretend to get it right 100% of the time but we do try our best. As Phil's post shows, we are willing to travel distances to get the right product in the right system for a customer.

When I was in Edinburgh I visited the Movie Rooms shop and it was an amazing place. Had a lovely chat with the MD - told him there was no way he could sell me anything there and then and he wasn't bothered at all, just very helpful and informative. Sadly I missed Dan, think he was on the Datasat course that day IIRC.

    Good day all,

I am not really one to write up reviews but I just wanted to share my experience with The Movie Rooms. Late last year Nov 2015, I took the decision in upgrading my processor. I had recently purchased new cinema speakers and integrated ceiling speakers for atmos too. Naturally the hunt for a new pre pro was on. After doing research on the net, I came accross The Movie Rooms.

I decided to call up and get some advice on which processor to purchase. By this time I narrowed it down to two models (Yamaha and Marantz). I had a lengthy conversation with Dan who gave me solid advice and was kind and professional throughout the whole conversation. After talking to Dan I decided to go ahead and purchase the Yamaha CX-A5100. Delivery was quick and efficient. after setting up the Yamaha , as happy as I was I felt something was lacking... I felt the room correction of the Yamaha was not to my taste/expectation. I was back to square one and desired something a little more superior..

Again speaking with Dan and Nick who was also very helpfull, I arranged for collection of the Yamaha with a pre order of the at the time upcoming Anthem AVM60. There was obviousley a difference in price but I was happy to pay the difference for a superior processor with state of art room correction (ARC).

In the end I was left with nothing for 3 months due to Anthem keep putting back the release date of their new line. Finally upon arrival I was one of the first ones to receive the Anthem AVM60 in the UK as Dan had promissed.

I am now a proud and happy owner of an Anthem. I couldn't be more happier and the wait was well worth it.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that Dan and Nick have both been very helpfull, professional and understanding throughout the past few months. I must admit, I am not the easiest customer as I am very picky and undecisive at the best of times lol :) . I have never experienced this level of customer service in my entire life. These guys are truly a great asset to the industry and I will definitely be returning to deal with Dan or Nick in the near future for future upgrades (projector etc...)

Dan and Nick, again.. Thank you for such an amazing experience and for all your help, advice and support..

    All the best..;)

    Mehmet.

    ATC joins The Movie Rooms

After a number of months of negotiation I can finally announce that we are now full dealers for ATC loudspeakers.

ATC, Acoustic Transducer Company, is a specialist British manufacturer of loudspeaker drive units and complete sound reproduction systems, including the relevant electronic equipment. ATC designs and manufactures loudspeaker drive units and systems to achieve levels of performance far in excess of the industry norm. This is achieved by adopting a thoroughly professional engineering approach to the issue of basic design, materials science and production technology.

We are very excited to be on board with ATC, and will have a range of products to demonstrate imminently.

As we are now over “crazy season” I thought it would be a good opportunity to have a news roundup of a few things that have happened over the last few months.

    AV Amplifiers and Processors -

We have now added Datasat and Storm to our listings on the website. Datasat have advised that there will be some new products in the pipeline which will be very exciting. We have had the new Storm I.ISP 3D.16.12 Integrated amplifier on demonstration for the past few months and we have been really bowled over by it. With DIRAC on board it really is the top of the tree as far as integrated amplifiers go without question.

Denon have also launched their new AVC-X8500H integrated amplifier which has been extraordinarily popular with old owners of the Denon AVR-X7200WA. Redesigned from the ground up with several features internally which make the unit a unique proposition for those who require high end sound with huge channel counts. The addition of the new Audyssey app gives previously unheralded control of the EQ system which was long overdue.

Marantz being a close stable mate of the Denon have also launched a processor to replace the old AV8802a aptly named the Marantz AV8805. This also includes the ability control the EQ via the Audyssey app. I’ve always been a fan of the Marantz units core sound quality and ran a Marantz integrated for most of last year in my own set-up to great effect.

The all new Emotiva RMC-1 Processor will be with us next month and we should be one of the first to receive one of these units for demonstration. Sonically, the RMC-1 features a full 16 channels of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound (7.3.6 channels), with a decoded audio signal for each channel that is processed by a separate high performance AKM Verita 32-bit DAC, operated in precision balanced mono mode. Support is provided for native audio decoding of single and double rate DSD digital audio signals, accepted from either HDMI or USB sources. Auro 3D will also be supported albeit with an optional license. Analog audio signals are routed by precision circuitry that rivals the most expensive audiophile preamps. The analog signal path features premium audiophile-quality components at all critical locations to ensure the integrity of audio signal is preserved. The RMC-1’s Reference Stereo mode helps to create a two-channel listening experience that is unparalleled at the price point. Dirac Live automatic room correction, running on all 16 channels at a full 192 kHz sample rate, establishes the perfect synergy between the RMC-1, the listening room, and the rest of the system. For those who prefer a more interactive user experience, the RMC-1 includes comprehensive 11-band parametric equalization on every channel, in addition to compatibility with the popular Room EQ Wizard room correction and analysis software. To say we are excited to see this would be the biggest understatement of the year.

We still have no news on the new Anthem products which we expect at some point this year, again as soon as we hear anything we will update the news site. Anthem are also changing distributors and the current distributor has a lot of stock to clear of most of the current models and some of the old ones, contact us if you are in the market for some Anthem as there is probably a deal to be done.

All of the above-mentioned units are available for home demonstration now, apart from the Emotiva RMC-1 which should be available in late May.

    UHD Blu Ray -

The biggest shock of recent months was that Oppo will be removing themselves from the physical media market and discontinuing their UHD BD players, Headphones and DAC’s. There have been a few rumors with regards exactly how quickly these units will disappear from the market. Our understanding is that Oppo UK will close, and then an EU distribution center will open in the coming months with stock becoming available again until around late 2018. Oppo have confirmed they will outsource servicing and software updates on these units to not leave customers in the lurch.

The hole in premium high end UHD players will likely be filled by Pioneer who have two new units slated for release later in the year in the similar price bracket as the outgoing Oppo’s. As the Pioneer BD units were arguably better than the Oppo’s in our view, we await more details with bated breath and will update the news page as we get some more details.

Because of this unexpected news we have moved on our demo Oppo 205 which has been residence in the demonstration room since its launch and replaced it with the Sony UBP-X1000es which has a fantastic premium build quality and specification to match.

    OLED TV -

    We expect the imminent arrival of the new Panasonic OLED TV’s;

    65" Premium OLED - TX-65FZ952 - £3999

    55" Premium OLED - TX-55FZ952 - £2499

    65" Entry level OLED - TX-65FZ802 - £3499

    55" Entry level OLED - TX-55FZ802 - £2299.

I’ve ordered myself a TX-55FZ802 for the living room so will be writing a detailed review as soon as I can get it on the wall. Given Panasonic’s recent pedigree with OLED, expect a lot. The new Studio Colour HCX² 4K processor represents the pinnacle of Panasonic’s image processing expertise. Built on colour, black level and brightness know-how learned from their reference-quality plasma TVs and professional broadcast equipment, the system has also been tuned by a Hollywood colorist to deliver picture quality true to the filmmakers' vision. They really are the most accurate TV’s out of the box we have ever seen, to emphasize this all this year’s sets carry THX approval and certification.

    Speakers -

I’m usually drowning in speakers at the shop and this year is no different. We have tied up with ATC to offer their fantastic products to our customers and have already supplied some of their speakers with great effect in two recent jobs.

KEF has an all new range of Q series speakers which are on permanent demonstration in our smaller room at the office. Also, on permanent demonstration are the Goldenear Supersat speakers and Supersub subwoofers. We still haven’t found a small speaker to best these for performance, mainly due to their deployment of a ribbon tweeter which has little roll off up to 20khz in a couple of our rooms which is astonishing for such small speakers.

We will have some further additions to our installation range of speakers in the coming weeks but as the ink isn’t dry on that deal I’m afraid I can’t reveal any details. As soon as I can, it will be on the news page.

    LEXICON RV-6 & RV-9

I've just received our demo Lexicon RV-6. They come from the Harman group so are largely based on the Arcam architecture which includes DIRAC EQ, with a couple of key differences. The main one is the addition of Logic-7 processing. Heralded over the past decade as one of the best up-mixers available for 2.0 sources, it is great that this has been included on this platform. The other key area is it's build quality which surpasses the Arcam in a couple of areas. The front panel is a rather nice large piece of aluminium with some lovely blue lights, it has a much more solid volume knob and the top casework also seems slightly more rigid but that may be because of the extra depth on the front panel. Either way it looks great.

    On demo as of today.

    DYNAUDIO CI SPEKERS

Exciting news, we will shortly be able to sell Dynaudio CI installation speakers. Probably as good as it gets for standard CI in my book. The full range will be on the website shortly.

Next week is probably the last week in my current office. Please bear with me over the next couple of weeks as I move as it is likely to be a busy time for me and I may be mobile quite a lot. Im struggling to keep on top of the clearance list on AV Forums and it will probably get updated weekly from now on. If you want to keep up-to date with the clearance sale, 99% of it is going on Ebay so you can check here. Im adding products daily as the warehouse empties and also have a tonne of loose cables and new stock I cant really put up on eBay, so if you need something just shout. Usually if you see something on the eBay list it can be done cheaper to avoid the eBay fees. Just give us a call or drop me an email with a link to the product.

I’m interested in the Sony ubp-700 on eBay, can you do it at a better price for a fellow AVForum member?

I’ve just sent you an email about it too.
