Great to see you review a trashier type of film @Casimir! I've preordered the Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals release from Severin, so it's a great time to be alive if you enjoy Italian cannibal movies.

Some of the animal cruelty on display in these old films was absolutely disgraceful.

It was and there is no excuse for it. Even the directors have admitted that it was a mistake which has harmed their careers. Thankfully though the BBFC won't pass those sequences and even if you import them, you can avoid them.

In the excellent Grindhouse release of Cannibal Holocaust, when you press play, an option comes up for which version you would like to watch, with the animal scenes cut, or uncut. Never watched the uncut version as I get way too upset about that kind of thing.

Im sure you would agree that filmed direct animal torture for on screen entertainment is in a different league though. No need, and no excuse.

I seem to recall there was a change when some horses were killed in The Return of Frank James although I can't find anything doing a quick search. This was 1940.

Just take a look around the site - particularly the What I just bought thread and the What I watched last night thread.

I don't buy the Shameless discs as they're usually cut. Never seen the point of buying these movies with many of the scenes that gave them their notoriety cut out. Most of the running time for these films are a bit lacklustre to say the least.
BBFC a bit inconsistent with these movies when you see what they left in of Cannibal Holocaust.

The US discs are the way to go although Code Red don't seem to have made this one available as they promised.

Kids who watched those will be traumatized for the rest of their living life.
What kind of sick movie directors make those!
It's lower than the lowest of the lowest.

Assuming you actually mean what you've posted , it's the kind of nonsense comment we saw regularly during the video nasties silliness of the 1980's but as I understood it all of us who lived through it are now grown up , have not been "traumatised" in the slightest and have been very happy to see that similar views have all been proven over the years to be just what we thought of them when we heard them back then - complete bollocks.
With very few exceptions all the "horrific" video nasties that upset the nanny state back then have all been released uncut on home video over the last 15 years and the theory that society would crumble was shown to be inaccurate

very very true. I remember as a child of the late 70's / early 80's seeing all the main horror films on home VHS video (rented from the local store lol) and me and my mates loved them - and most of us grew up and have been enjoying them on laser disc, dvd, blu ray and now even 4k. Some have become classics a la John Carpenter films, some were considered nasties a la Lucio Fulci and some were considered extreme as this title - but you are totally right, we all did survive and I don't think we have any lasting trauma lol. It's a genre of film and I enjoy my horror films as many of us do :smashin:

      Here here.
The animal cruelty is a sad thing but it doesn't happen anymore even in those countries where they did previously so cutting it out today seems a pointless exercise. Retaining it will not encourage others to make movies with it in because it's not allowed even it was still a requirement.

But Grindhouse offer the best solution. Their Cannibal Holocaust has an option to watch without the animal killings which would actually make that version a few minutes shorter than the UK cut which now includes all but 14 seconds because of a decision from the BBFC that still doesn't really add up.

Long time since I've seen Cannibal Apocalypse. I have a dvd but I don't recall if there is any animal cruelty in that one as it's a different take on the cannibal subject.

Sorry bud but I didn't grow up with that nonsense type of sick films.
Enjoy it if that rocks your boat.
