I think it must have been the 70s.

The 50s and all times before were hard with shorter life expectancy than we know now.

The 60s might be considered by some to be the best, but the threat of the cold war always loomed in the background.

Come the 80s, we became aware of environmental issues which have now [and will be forever more] a worry for us all.

The 70s were surely [in the big scheme of things] the least worrysome years.

Or am I wrong?:)

What, with THOSE fashions!?!?!?!? Truly shocking... ;-)

I suggest you need to read your history books the 70's were not great by any means! Winter of discontent etc etc!

My platform shoes were anything but comfortable.

Most people up north where i live were poverty stricken in the 70s. The standard of living now is far higher. Its easy to get carried away with situations when watching the news "tonight on the news, we're all gonna die (again)".

Provided that one was wealthy enough to play the cad, the years 1925-38 look pretty good to me. You could move around on the great ocean liners, experience beautiful fashion, food and architecture, buy yourself a 4 litre Bentley or perhaps a Talbot Lago and perhaps show a gentlemanly interest in flying.

Of course if you weren't wealthy this is all irrelevant.

this decade has been the most comfortable for me... passed the half way line and it already beats the 80's and 90's hands down.

All depends on how much money you have, where you live, what race you are and which religion you follow.

It also depends on what economic group you belong to, I'd go with the boom years under Thatcher or the Internet bubble (all though neither ended good) if you was middle or upper class. Both periods were pretty poor if you was on the dole or working class.

Having not lived through the 60s I say from the outside looking in they appeared to be good if you was a twenty something at the time.

So you think I should stop wearing this glittery tanktop, Harry Hill style shirt and platform boots then?

No not at all! Suit's you sir!

It all boils down to what age group you fell into in each decade. I was carefree in the 70's as I was still a kid, in the 80's I was leaving school, getting a job, going out drinking, etc. In the 90's it was staring a family, but each decade had its good and bad points, depending how you looked at them. :)

Just linking this thread to the one below about taping the Top 40 off the radio, I'd love to be able to go back to the early '70s with a few CDs and a laptop, DVDs etc. and show what we can do now.

I am still amazed at how far technology has moved on in this particular area.

Whether it makes the decade we are currently in any better than the '70s is a moot point. For me, the '70s were great at the time, but looking back, it all seems so shabby.

I grew up in the 80's and loved it. BMX's, Skateboards the first time round, vectrexes.

I think now its all a bit PC and often scary
e.g. during the summer hols, Me and a mate would often disappera for the whole day and it was never a problem.

Couldnt imagine that now.

the 70s was the best, free love, flares, fro's, and funk. you could go out to play as the kiddie fiddlers only wanted to give you sweets and show you puppys. playing with matches was fun instead of arson, and you didn't have to worry about getting beaten up for wearing the wrong trainers at school

unfortunately i was too young to benefit from all the free love that was going around, and by the 80s AIDS had scared everyone off sex and even zammo was turning into a junkie, and then stock aitken and waterman killed the charts and stevie wonder's fashion sense took over the world. the summer of love came back again, but i didn't fancy your's much. the klf rocked the 90s and kept the grebos at bay and then the spice girls and take that came along and spoiled it all. the rolling stones returned and called themselves oasis for a laugh and things were fine until the millenium bug came along and jeapordised our internet porn lives, and 2001 just never lived up to the film. hopefully the sequel will be better than the movie...

Don't all of us tend to develop an affinity to our teenage years? I know for me, it must have been the 90's during my teenage years. Education was, retrospectively, something of a doss and I needn't worry about taxes, full-time employment and bills. Also, I believe the constant threat of terrorism in today's world is unnerving, as is the overplayed possibility of a clash of civilisations, both things which hamper my enjoyment of living in the present. Actually, come to think of it, so does all of the warnings about how unhealthy my children will be because of Mr. Bush's refusal to adhere to Kyoto protocols etc, etc. It sounds like the next generation may have it pretty bad.

If one decade ending in a 0 I would say the 70’s but prefer something like 1965-1975. I really like the start of the 70’s the best although the fashion was a but way out a lot it was remember by people going over the top, but mosr of the people were a lot smater that the people today I think there were better traps round then the a lot of people today.
Petrol was relatively cheap and jobs were still plentifully. Music was varied. And there was not drink culture in the pubs and clubs like there is today.

And you could see a top singing act without paying a arm and leg and still sit down during the show.

spent most of the 60's pissing myself thinking i was going to be atomised any minute:eek:

The "free love" thing was in the sixties, booming around 1967 I believe with the introduction of the pill. Maybe there were some who liked it so much they carried on into the seventies though ...

Far out man

You must have smelt lovely by 1969 :)

i was listening to a program on radio 4 on the workings of memory in the brain most interesting anyone else hear it. They spoke about this thread subject hear! Doctors were talking who were brain surgeons and specialist and said why we look back with affection as a human being is that we look back with today's eyes if that make any sense we do not see what it was really like the brain chooses only to remember the good parts and there normally so wrong. My dad always says people talk about the long hot summers from there youth but never remember the not so good ones.:)

They don't remember the smog either.

I guess that we all look back to earlier decades through rose coloured glasses but I don't remember the high levels of violent crime in the sixties and seventies that we seem to have nowadays.

same "levels" of crime we just have 24 hour news, CCTV, just looking at what I left the house with, Shades, Cell Phone, pda, MP3 player, expensive clothing, Lap Top, credit cards... most of us walk around with a lot of stuff worth stealing in this day and age.
