Hi guys, something happened last night that I couldnt quite believe. I have been wanting to upgrade my ageing Toshiba MT1 for some time and had planned to change to a Sony HS50 this christmas :D , but just recently a couple of bargains came up that I couldnt resist namely John Mulcahys DVD32R for £1600 (RRP £4300) and a pair of Tag 250MRs for £1595 (RRP £4000) This is where my projector budget went and I decided I would have to wait a little longer :( Unfortunately last weekend the Tosh flashed up 2000 hours on the disaplay  I was quite distressed until last night when over dinner my girlfriend said "you know you really wanted that new projector, well I will put £1000 towards it for your christmas present if you like. After all I watch the films too sweetheart"      So now I get to have my new PJ as well a having spent 3K on new Tag gear  I have had my cake and ate it :D :rotfl: :D

Having owned an MT3, I can say that you are really going to notice an amazing improvement with any of the new crop of projectors. One thing I have often wondered is was the build quality of the MT1/3 SanyPLV30 era of projectors better than the new batch? I suppose they have to cut corners somewhere

BTW, your girlfriend sounds great and all but does she darn your socks? Now there's a test of the quality a woman!!!

I would say that the Sonys are really well made, with not a lot of corner cutting visible. My mates PTAE200 is a bit lightweight in build quality compared to my MT1 though and about the same PQ wise aswell. THe MT1 does have nice enclosed Zeiss optics. I have read that the Panys suffer from dust contamination due to cost cutting in the optical enclosure meaning that its not sealed. I dont know how the AE700 compares to the older chasis but Id rather pay that little bit extra for a more sturdy build :)
