The Missus has dropped a bombshell...!!

I had my heart set on the Monitor Audio RX6 AV12 surround package (in walnut),
but the wife has now decided she really doesn't like the look of "traditional style" speakers........!! :censored::censored::mad:

On the other side though she is quite open to "Style" speaker packages.... as she pointed to the B&W Nautilus set up :suicide:  I wish

Now, as I have about £2-2.5K to spend, are there any "Style" speaker packages out there that can live up to the Monitor Audio package?

I have no idea where to start so any guidance would be appreciated

Thanks

It's easy for the missus to say what SHE would like but what would YOU like?????. I'm pretty sure you don't tell her what colour of curtains to put up or what bed linen to buy. This is a set up that you're hopefully going to have for many years to come so put your foot down and tell her you're getting them. Failing that you're going to end up with a setup you're not 100% happy with and wonder "What if???".
There is a time and a place for sub sat systems i.e. lack of room, etc but don't just go down that route because the missus says. I don't mean what I've said in any way bad or disrespectful but if you're going to spend a lot of your hard earned money wouldn't it be good to know that you've got exactly what you want.
Just my thoughts.

Hi,

I have some used Orbs that are extremely wife friendly & as invisible as you can get (I had sisters to contend instead!). They sound amazing for their size & when partnered up with a good sub.

I have a number of Orb systems & may sell some if you are interested - let me know if you are interested & I will place an ad in the classifieds.

I Know what your saying Tartan Man, but I only recently managed to blag the 50" TV up from a 42" and that took a lot of doing...... maybe if I save up a bit longer and in the meantime let her have the bathroom she wants.....

Suave, thanks ill have a look into those orbs... but it's not the fact she doesnt want to see them, she doesnt mind their presence in the room, as long as they aren't big ugly boring boxes.....

How did you manage that feat? I can't even get to 42", from the current 32" and a seating distance of over 5m. Not even my response to her complaints that she can't read subtitles or other text as it's too small have any success. Yet she likes our 1.5m tall ML Spires (possibly your wife would too?).

It's taken me a year of persuasion and lots of nagging like a little child...doing nice things.... the Ipad 2 for Christmas helped also.... Oh and the "Imagine how good Emmerdale and Masterchef would look on a bigger screen"... hehe :devil:

I just haven't managed to persuade her on the look of the RX6 AV12 package yet......

I totally sympathise with you as I had the very same problem, my girlfriend is very fussy with our decor & she's really into modern, so we compromised!
The Jamo D500's (THX certified) are very sleek & modern in gloss black or white. They arent that big but doesnt lack in sound quality for Home Cinema, we have a deal on at min for £1549 :)
I use them myself in the living room partnered with an Onkyo 609, cant complain & either can she!
Regards, Jonathan

I like the look of the Jamo's....... but she doesn't....
However we could be onto something with the MA Apex's i'll have to go demo some.

But here's a turn up for the books... she likes the look of the Mission 79se series speakers in black and silver....:suicide: ....to which I pointed out they look quite similar to the RX12's in black....!!

Has any one heard the Mission 79se series in cinema set up, or know where I can demo a set?

Monitor Audio Apex would be the best choice. Based on the Gold range and use higher quality materials than the Silver RX range

HI,

Now put Orbs up sale in the classifieds -

http://www.avforums.com/forums/spea...orbs-van-damme-buttkicker-polk-gallo-etc.html

You will need a decent subwoofer - plenty around & you can have a really great sub/sat system that is very discreet & stylish and save a huge bundle of cash!

Demo the MA Apex.
An awesome sub sat system. Fantastic with both movies and music. Detailed, fast, cohesive sound stage.
They look the dogs and the build and finish is second to none.
You can wall mount them , use the supplied stands for flat surfaces or purchase the optional tall stands.
Available in gloss white or black.
This is a proper sub sat system not just a style package which people don't seem appreciate.
If you are going to use them for music as well have a look at a different sub IMO as you can get a better sub for the £. I use an MJ Acoustics Ref 1 mk3 as it is tighter and faster than the Apex sub.
I have had many top flight speaker packages over the years and the Apex are one of my favourite as they tick so many boxes and serve my needs for multichannel music better than nearly anything else I have heard.

Show her my Audes Blues which are in speaker classifieds.
She will be pleased with the style and you with the sound ;)

Nice, but a bit out of my price range, I only have that to spend on the whole 5.1 system.

I went to my local SSAV and booked a demo for the APEX's in January, dragged the missus in as-well and she liked them :D
