Probably my favourite of the three. Just for that epic mid film chase. Possibly the best car chase put on celluloid.

I did have a soft spot for the sequel too, as stated, the car chase was amazing at the time, will be interested to see how’s its aged.
Had a nice little tie in with the PS2 game - Enter the Matrix - man, it looks dated now ...

I think that The Matrix actually works very well as a standalone film, which is good as I find the sequels barely watchable. It's a shame because it could have been a great trilogy. A real wasted opportunity.

I watched the second quite a few times and while owning the blu’s I have never watched the third since the cinema.
Need to make time to watch the original on UHD, had a quick skim through it and it looks and sounds impressive.

Don’t want to hijack Cas, but is there a 2001 UHD review coming from Simon or yourself?
Haven’t seen too many user comments yet, but the screenshots look impressive.

Simon's 2001 4K review should be just around the corner mate.

      Many thanks Cas,

I quite like the second film, Such a shame the third was pretty bad.

      Thanks Cas.

Reloaded was never going to live up to the groundbreaking original but its still a very good film for me. Ive ordered the trilogy set obviously. It does mean watching Revolutions again unfortunately....

I found The Matrix 4K disc too noisy for my taste. The process of adding HDR can overdo the grain beyond the director’s intent, and I found that to be the case with that disc. 10/10 for picture here leaves me wondering if this has significantly improved? I really did not think the picture on The Matrix anything to write home about, though I admit I prefer a cleaner look.

It looked better to me in Dolby Vision than in HDR10 with the grain being less prominent especially in the Neo interrogation by Smith scene early on in the movie. I also tried HDR-->SDR BT.2020 and it was a case of grain, what grain? So yes, the HDR10 presentation of the first Matrix movie is not the best imo.

I always use strip:BT2020 as I’m a 4K projector user. Still found the grain on the heavy side after calibrating white levels.

The Matrix is the 'better film' but this is also my favorite. I've probably said this somewhere on the forums before but the scene from when the go up into the lift all the way to the motorway finale is for me the best sequence in the Trilogy. I have played that sequence more times than any other part of any other film.

As for Revolutions? A colleague gave me a copy of the Blu Ray a while back and I eventually watched it months later, once. The ending could look pretty cool in HDR I suppose.

Overall I'm still not sure about the picture quality on this one. I only watched bits and pieces of it yesterday but hmmm. However, the Zion scene has some new additions that I don't remember seeing stand out so prominently in the previous Blu Rays (let's just leave it at that). So there is obviously more detail being shown.

I used to really enjoy this sequel , has some outstanding moments as mentioned and would love to see and hear them on this 4k release , the car chase, but im not too sure about seeing that Anderson/Smith brawl again

I was worried about that too. From my quick look at it yesterday, they "may" have tidied that up a bit. It didn't seem to look as artificial as in previous releases.

There is nothing wrong with the remaster but Revolutions could look underwhelming as some scenes look and feel monochromatic.

I still feel Matrix has the best visual impact among the 3 followed by Reloaded and then by Revolutions.

Thanks for the review Cas but think I'll dodge this. I liked The Matrix but not nearly as much as others seemed to and this and the Richard of a third outing were poor overall in comparison.

Yeah in this case I think I might agree with you. I have to admit to being a little disappointed on with my dips into it but I will have to watch it completely to form a proper opinion. Also I have no problems with most of the Zion scene but I'm going to try edit out the infamous unnecessary scene.
