Sounds great, it was the early impressions I read last week that made me put an order in, sadly still waiting for it too arrive despite being sent Thursday but think this will make for the perfect bank holiday weekend viewing.

Regarding the extras I assume most are 480p? being as a lot of the material is from the original DVD and SE releases.

This is the best effort I have seen from Warner on UHD to date. I was absolutely thrilled with the disc when I watched it on Monday evening.

Gladiator 4K looks fantastic , IMO - just don't be concerned by the terrible smoke effect behind the opening words - soon as you're past that, all good!

10/10 for everything? Wowsers! Can't wait to give this a spin, got it in the pile with Gladiator for the Bank Hol weekend, for once I'm hoping for a bit of poor weather as I don't want to spend five hours indoors if it's nice :rotfl:

i watched gladiator last night, classic must have movie for anyone's collection and great picture and sound, cant access DV as yet but that will change next year!

AS for Matrix, great review Cas, another must have classic, so i'm happy they have given it the treatment it deserves

Cas just one thing i would like to know about going forward (and this will be useful as a reference point for other forums members. obviously i don't know what equipment you are watching your reviews on and with dolby vision now becoming more relevant, is it possibly to expand on the DV implementation aspects of the picture (were possible) i may approach Mr withers with just request too. i realise that it is subject to our reviewers having the DV enabled equipment, that's why i have put the caveat of (were possible) cheers

So if this is Warner's, does that mean Zoom won't do it?

Does anyone see a colour issue on morpheus black suit in an early scene when he takes Neo into a training program, its like a smudge, don't normally notice but it was quite obvious.

Grabbed this on Monday and very impressed... for the most part. The one issue I did have - and I freely admit this is a personal thing - was with the grain. Most of the time it's fine but there's a few scenes, most noticeably in the 'bugging' scene after the Agents catch Neo, that it's downright distracting. I'm sure it's always been that way but the mix of 4K, HDR and in this case a 65" screen make it REALLY noticeable. Normally this doesn't bug me but when the rest of the film looks so damn good it tended to jump out as a 'problem', even if it's true to the original intent.

Certainly noticing details I hadn't seen before like the background of the scrolling telephone numbers clearly being Matrix code before we start the zoom in. The audio is damn good too, though oddly it's one of the only Atmos tracks that's given me trouble owing to the less than ideal rear speaker placement I can't get away from at the moment. Still it's all a big step forward from what's already available and the sort of catalogue release that makes new formats worth double dipping on.

Thought the grain was so bad in some scenes I thought I was watching it in VHS. I want to watch films that look like the demos in 50/60p & the picture razor sharp. So underwhelmed with UHD films so far.

Then you must pick and choose movies that are shot digitally.

My copy of Matrix just arrived, one Day early :)
BTW thanks Cas for the great Review - it got me even more fired up to see it. I will be watching it in Dolby Vision, so excited to see what that adds to what already sounds like a lovely looking remaster
Question now is, can I hold out until the Weekend? :D

Most of the film looks really good to me, just from watching select parts last night. The audio is outstanding too. Some scenes, such as the Morpheus and Neo fight look a little soft to me though, especially on their faces. I'm interested to know if anyone else feels that same way.

Still totally agree with Caz though, it's an amazing transfer.

I respect reviewer's score and opinions but in my books this is a solid 7/10. Not because of film grain but just that the sharpness varies quite drastically from scene to scene. Also the black levels appeared raised in quite a number of dark scenes.

Pretty hard to criticise the black levels of the film when viewing it on an lcd though. An interesting review however, grammatical nuances and incorrect use of 'passed' instead of 'past', aside.
Sorry, but critical reviews are under a lot of scrutiny in many different areas.

Thanks for the review and like all things, people forget there was a time before The Matrix and After. There were so many copies and parodies of this film it no longer feels new and shiny. However, that opening sequence was absolutely mind blowing. No idea what is happening, no explanation and just phenomenal visuals. I have lost the bluray of this from the box set (honest). So this is on the list to triple dip
