Calling all lovers of 'The Shawshank Redemption'

Shawshank undoubtedly has a magical appeal to many of us,
It's one of those movies one always keeps coming back to again
& again, it's universally loved by millions but what is it about
the movie that has made it so special??

What are the ingredients which have caused it to have this
    effect on us all??

I've never met or heard anyone ever give this movie a bad
    report.

I'd like to hear your comments & opinions on Shawshank and
that includes favourite quotes & scenes etc.

This movie is special to me & I'm sure many more of you too.
So I'd really appreciate real positive input here guys. :)

    That is all

    **** SPOILERS ******

I've only seen it a few times, but from what I can remember of it, I found it hard to watch for the most part due to the brutal nature of his life in the prison.

Highlight text to read below :-

The best two 'feelgood' parts for me are when the governor realises that he's been stiched up and he hears the sirens outside - but the best part is the final scene on the beach when Morgan Freeman walks up to Andy. That's the part when I have to go into macho mode and fight back the tears - usually offer to make a cup tea and rush out of the room before I'm rumbled.

I love this film it is so compelling. I think it is well worth the 2hr watching time. Morgan Freeman is great but i think tim robbins gives a great performance. I was shocked by the ending. It was a great epic feel good film.

Its a film about friendship, something men value as much as love, and is in itself, love. It's about hope and despair, and how we deal with them differently, and about how dehumanising people is the worst of all crimes.

    A great film

Hi Loz, watched the Limited Edition Shawshank DVD last night. Nothing special here unfortunately. Same DD2.0 sound and same (poor?) picture as on other DVD's. The extra feature: "Shawshank: The Redeeming Feature" is also pretty thin and boring too unfortunately. Interviews with the stars and the director, basically everyone repeating the same thing: isn't it amazing how this film wasn't raved about on first release, but now is everyone's top five film. :boring: Nothing we haven't heard before.

Also some church goers who have claimed the film has so much religon in it: ie. Andy comes out of the sewer pipe and is reborn  , but each to his own. Also a bit about the prison, which was condemed a couple of years before the film, but is now a tourist attraction.

Nothing much new in these extras, so not really worth getting this limited edition if you already own the film IMO.

Still LOVE the film everytime I watch it!

    Hi Nobber22!

    Thanx for input mate!

I'd a funny feeling the picture quality wouldn't have been
any improvement on the current R2 excuses.

I was also interested in the documentary but it sounds like one
I've seen before on C4 - It wouldn't by any chance, be the one
    by Mark Kermode??

    That is all
