Kermode is getting more kranky these days  Normally I do find myself agreeing with much of what he says, but sometimes I wonder if he is indeed in a foul mood when he watches something.

When the time comes, I think going into this with low expectations will be a good thing.
That explains why I agreed with him on I Care A Lot.:rotfl:

Kermode goes with his heart these days, a film can be the worst pile ever committed to celluloid but if it a-lines with his politics it gets a pass.

Poor movie-lots of potential let down by acting and storie. Washington and Leto were good, most of the other acting was poor-however Malek was dreadful complete miscast ... waste of 2 hours

Cracking film, while others were bored I was pretty gripped till the end. Superb atmosphere and tone for a film of this genre, Rami was definitely the wrong character for this film, I thought Jared Leto was okay but find him hugely overrated for an actor who's hardly done anything iconic.
There's many clues in the film around the killer which makes it quite interesting and ambiguous which is the reality of chasing serial killers.

Anyone looking for a resolution in the crime genre just like the many many other average crime thrillers may be disappointed. I find this akin more to Zodiac than Seven.

Huge fan of Fincher but I've never liked Se7en, I was 15 when I watched it and saw that ending coming from a mile away. Zodiac on the other hand was utterly mesmerising!!!

I enjoyed this too. Thought it felt a little different from your run of the mill serial killer flick, with all be it familiar elements.
I never got the hate for this at all. Whilst no Se7en or Zodiac (but then, what is?), I found it a worthy addition to the genre. I'm not normally a big fan of Jared Leto, but thought he did a terrific job as the oddball suspect, and the divisive ending worked for me.

It’s another ok, but not brilliant movie. I think Jared Leto needs to dial things back a bit. Obviously he’s a bit of an eccentric in real life, but post-Oscar he seems get free-rein to indulge himself, and verges on parody. Malek is similar. Denzel on the other hand, knows that less is sometimes more. (In our house we have a general principle that any film that Denzel is in will be at least ok, often great).
