Just thought I'd post my findings on my 55LM660T that i've had for the last couple of weeks. Can't see a 660 thread but seeing as it's the same set apart from the colour of the trim I thought i'd post on here. Some of you may have seen me before on these forums over the last year or so in my conquest to find an acceptable set, be it LED or plasma. I've got through many, including Samsung D6900's, LG LW550's, a Panasonic GT30 and a few others. I loved passive 3d and was keen to give LG's 2012 sets a chance after I returned my GT30 due to green splodge and poor motion issues. In fact I had beeen dogged with motion issues for the last few months, starting with a D6900 and including the GT30 too.
Anyway, I picked up the 55LM660T a couple of weeks ago and am so far very impressed. general PQ is excellent IMO, obviously not in the same league as the GT30 I had, but all round I find it excellent at any time of the day. The main bugbear of the 4 lw550's I had last year was banding and dse. Although this set does display banding, it is very mild and not really noticeable most of the time. I watched the FA cup final yesterday and although it was there, it was no way near as bad as what I experienced last year with the LW550's and didn't spoil my enjoyment of the game. There is not even the slightest hint of dse on this set. The 550's I had last year varied from non existant on one to totally unwatchable on another so I'm pleased with the LM660 in that respect.
Backlight bleed is evident in the top 2 corners. It's never noticeable during daytime or night times with lights on. Turn the lights off and it's still not noticeable when whatever you are watching fills the whole screen. It's only really noticeable when watching films with black bars and even then it's not really distracting, again I'd say it's an improvement on last years sets, but then I never really had an issue with this on the 550's i had.
Black levels are great in daylight and with lights on at night, even watching in total darkness I find they hold up very well, not quite as good as plasma but they certainly don't disgrace themselves on this set.
Now, motion on this set I'm finding to be the best I've had for sometime. I've had problems with judder on the last few sets I've had, be it led or plasma, I don't know if it's just me picking up on something that everyone else ignores but it's been bugging me for months. I'm happy to say that this set has no judder whatsoever, even without the trumotion controls which quite frankly I don't want it's as smooth as anything. Yes there is a slight bit of blur but i'd willingly trade in the annoying judder I've experienced lately for a bit of blur which doesn't bother me. Even 3d fims, which I found on last years 550's to have some judder, are completely free of any judder. 3D in general also seems better than last year and in my opinion is so much more enjoyable to watch than active. I've had both active and passive and have always prefered passive, the difference in quality is just barely noticeable and I love the fact that I can watch 3d at anytime of the day without blacking my room out to avoid the annoying headache inducing flicker.
So I'm very happy with this set, after getting through countless sets over the last 18 months I'd say it's the best I've had. It's not perfect, it has a bit of mild banding and backlight bleed, but nowhere near like i experienced last year on the 4 550's I had. I found the buzzing, brightness fluctuations, fan noise and motion judder on the other sets i had a lot more annoying than anything on this set.
Yes, I suppose I could return it due to the mild banding and backlight bleed but I honestly don't think I would get an improvement. There maybe slightly better sets out there but from my experience last year I normally end up with one that is worse. Obviously I would prefer one without these problems but the chances of getting one is very slim.
Oh, and a hats off to Richer Sounds who have been nothing short of fantastic with me over the last couple of months, a much better buying experience than John Lewis who although at times had been excellent, at others they had been awfull, depending on who you speak to.
I just read your post and along with the review in Home cinema choice for this model I'm now wondering wether i should be looking at this, its in my price range, has the looks not my main priority and more importantly a decent review from a magazine and a forum member.
