Hello,

I just had my first V+ HD box installed this morning, and I'm looking forward to using it's new features.

However, I have yet to try the BBC HD channel with an HD cable connected. I guess you could say I'm confused with all the wires.

I've got 3 HDMI cables in total (1 supplied with the HD box), a DVD upscaler player (sony NS92V), surround sound av (KS1000), the HD box and my TV (32 inch bravia).

Could someone explain to me how I should be connecting everything up (I've also got some scart cables and those rgb things laying around too).

(TV has 1 HDMI socket, AV unit has 2, dvd has 1, HD box has 1)

thanks in advance, and apologies if this is in the wrong section.

gOOD EVENING,

I shall attempt, with out proir knowledge of yoru gear to assist your connection whoes.

YOu appear two have two HDMI kit which outouts HDMI signals, but the TV only accepts one.

So solution one would be two swap the hdmi lead when switching from DVD to TV or back.

Can be useful for problem solving but, really not work able.

However yousay that your Sony Amp has two HDMI connections. This seems slightly wierd, unless there is a third output? You could then use the sony amp as a switching box, so when youselect TV on the amp, it will switch the hdmi for you to the out put. As such you connect both the dvd and V+ box to the two HDMI inouts, and connect the TV tothe output from the amp.

If this is not the case, then i am not sure how to advise.

If this is the case, it may also be possible for you to connect the optical out from the V+ box to your AV amp and thus get DD 5.1 from the BBC HD channel as and when. For this youwill need an optical lead; together with exploring the V+ options menu to enable the HDMI output over ride; there has been a thread on this in the last day or so.

I hope this is of help

Adrian

Just did a quick google searcha and found a manual for the amp.

A quick read seems to sugggest it can switch between two hdmi inputs to one output.
It also has sveral optical sound inputs.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure if your tv has a component connection, but your v+ box should.

If your tv and hd box has, I'd go and buy one.
If you av has optical in, I'd also buy a optical audio cable.

dvd to av via hdmi
av to tv via hdmi
hd box to tv via component
hd box optical to av via optical

good luck

aha! You are quite correct. I had a look at the back of my AV box and realised that there are indeed 3 HDMI slots. I shall try this and see what happens.

Many thanks
-edit--

Ok, I've plugged in everything as it should be (as far as I can tell).

I've got the hdmi lead going from the DVD to the AV DVD IN port, I've got the V+ Box going in to the Video 2 hdmi port, and the TV in to the monitor out hdmi port. (still got scart going from TV to V+ Box, as I can not get a picture if I remove this).

When I go in to the settings of the V+ box and try switching the signal from RGB/Comp to HDMI I just get a blank screen.

Is the reason for this that I havn't switched my AV box accordingly (it has several Input options on the front, from Video 1, Video 2, DVD, SA-CD/CD, Tuner) ?

I think when you set up the V+ box for HD you need a SCART and HDMI connected. You look at the RGB input on your TV, switch to HDMI in the setup menu and then switch to the HDMI input on the TV. You then have to press a button on the remote to confirm you can see the HDMI input. Then remove the SCART.

I'm still having problems with the HD.

Could someone explain to me how I use my AV box as a switch?

I have everything connected, and I can watch TV through the scart, but when I try and change the Display Format to one of the HDMI options, it tells me that it can not detect an HD TV.

Ok, I tried doing what you said (i'm sure I've tried it before) and this time it worked.

However, whilst on the BBC HD Preview channel, the picture seems quite noisy, although that may be because I'm sitting quite close (not sure how clear it is supposed to be up close).

Good, glad it works,

Now try it through the amp, see if the picture works....

As to teh sound, if you connect the amp via optical, and disable the hdmi in the settings, then when the amp is switched to tv, the amp should play the tv sound, in affect.

All is working now!

I can now have all my bits n bobs connected and turned on, and then flick between DVD and TV using all the hdmi cables.

I'm as happy as larry now, whomever Larry is.

Thanks all :)
